Shakti Yoga

We loved this article and hope you do too: http://www.becomingminimalist.com/un-busy.

Our favorite, of course, was #6:

6. Cultivate space in your daily routine. Take time for lunch. Find space in your morning to sit quietly before starting your day. Invest in solitude, meditation, or yoga. Find opportunity for breaks at work in between projects. Begin right away cultivating little moments of space and margin in your otherwise busy day.

What was your favorite? Which one can you implement in your life today?

Apologies for not reading through this thread in detail but: Would love to know if you have any "mom + kid" yoga classes that would be offered in the early evening or on weekends. Thanks.

bluepool, how old is your child? We don't currently have a Family Yoga class on the schedule but please let us know what you are looking for and perhaps we can make it happen if there's enough interest. Thank you.

Someone also suggested a yoga for parents but with kids in the studio at the Mothers & More moms night out. She had gone to a class with mobile kids where there was some playspace in one corner (parents brought the toys) and the parents did a class. Obviously, not as relaxing as w/o kids but it might be a nice option for those of us who have a hard time paying for class and a sitter. I know Judie teaches yoga for Kids and there had been some Mom and Me classes at what is now Work N Play NJ but nothing in the area (as far as I know) for a studio where the mom does yoga and the kids play.

Will this be repeated in the future? After reading this article in the NY Times yesterday ( http://nyti.ms/1gwioGQ ) we want to try this for our daughter who definitely has issues with focus, emotions and stress.

I have an 8-year-old. She loved it when the two of us participated in a sample yoga class at her school's Family Fitness Day last year. She still asks me every so often when we can take a yoga class together. I work full time so anything on weekdays prior to 6 p.m. at the earliest is not possible for me. Thanks!

bluepool and istudymemory, thank you for these suggestions. We do offer two after school yoga classes. Kathleen Good teaches Kids Yoga Ages 8-12: Tuesdays, 4-4:45pm and Teen Yoga (13+): Tuesdays, 5-6pm. Judie Hurtado teaches Kids 3-7 years old on Wednesdays, 4-4:45 pm. We offered a Grown Up Yoga class during Judie's kids yoga class (the same time but in a different space at Shakti) but unfortunately we did not have many participants and couldn't continue the class.

You can read more about our kids yoga offerings here: http://www.shaktinj.com/ShaktiKids.htm.

Christina Helms is teaching a Family yoga class on Memorial Day, 9:15-10:15am, $20 drop-in for whole family, ages 5 & up! We would love to hear your thoughts about making this a permanent class, perhaps once a month, on an Friday evening or weekend afternoon.

istudymemory, we love working with Mothers & More. I know Judie is a member and also Emily, who teaches at Shakti. We have been in touch with a member about offering kids yoga classes this summer for Mothers and More members. Please let me know more about Moms Night Out. Judie has an amazing assistant in her yoga class, Sofia, who could help us with this.

Please feel free to email me at info@shaktinj.com with any ideas and comments.

Namaste.

Yes! We intend to have another series in the Fall but no need to wait. Kids can drop in to the last class this Monday, May 19. Parents are also welcome in class. These classes do not need to be taken in order. Also, please know that meditation is included in all of our kids yoga classes (Tuesday and Wednesdays).

Thank you!

I'm sorry; The Family Yoga class on Memorial Day is being held at 9:30-10:30.

@shaktiYoga, Memorial Day is a big day for families in Maplewood... I'm afraid you won't get much participation during that time slot as it's right in the middle of the big festivities - the parade (9 am) and duck race (11am). Not that everyone participates in these festivities, of course, but it may not be the best day to gauge long-term interest!

Chakra meditations are simple, yet powerful techniques for helping you to develop inner poise and keep your life in balance.

How smoothly your chakras function influences how fully you inhabit your physical body, the success of your relationships, and how much inner peace you are able to enjoy. With regular practice these meditations can help you to tap into your vast potential reservoir of psycho-spiritual energy.

Swami Saradananda presents you with a down-to-earth approach to inner peace. Many of the exercises are aimed at eliminating the negative emotional behavior associated with each of the chakras.

Chakra Meditation can help you:

~ Get grounded and connected to the world around you
~ Restore and enhance the smooth flow of your vital energy
~ Open the doorways to receiving intuitive inspiration
~ Gain new insights into healthier behavioral patterns and a more-rewarding life-style

I've now gone for my second treatment with Debra Bernath -- an hour of reflexology. My gosh, for the first time in I don't know how long my feet didn't hurt when I walked out of there (I was kidding her saying could she just wheel the table down Springfield and take me home so I wouldn't have to walk on them). I'm now reading the book "The Dragon's Way" that she recommended in preparation for taking her course in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Win-win all the way!!!

Isn't Debra amazing? We are so lucky to have her at Shakti. Please tell all your friends about her incredible hands. grin There was a a thread on Reflexology not too long ago. Perhaps you could also post there as well. We want as many people to benefit as possible from Debra's gifts. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us.

Is the class still on for Tuesday evenings at 7:45 for the "Inflexible (and decrepit)"? I added the decrepti part. And if I can't make it until next Tuesday, can I still join in?

I was looking for that thread and couldn't find it so I posted it here. Oh, you will get to know me -- when I find something good, I tell the world! :-D

Yes, her hands are incredibly healing and comforting and I mentioned that to her both times I saw her. (I studied shiatsu myself in the early '90s and I know how important that is.)
