School Tomorrow?

I know that a lot of schools are closed tomorrow, Is Maplewood/SO one of them?

Actually, honoring Columbus is what sucks.

Reading the school calendar in advance is a good thing

As long as I can remember South Orange/Maplewood schools have not been closed on Columbus Day. It seems like this is another holiday that's going the way of stuff like Arbor Day

Excuse me but why is this in Maplewood Specific? I'm confused. Does Maplewood have a different calendar that South Orange? Or maybe it should be in Education? I dunno cheese

I was initially bummed because we are used to going away for the long weekend, but now I'm glad to not have another interrupted week of school! I feel like my kindergartner really needs the routine of 5-day weeks after the crazy September

Actually, it wasn't all that long ago that we typically had a teacher workday on Columbus Day, but that changed a few years ago. But you are correct that the schools were open then - but for staff and faculty only.

Having a copy of your school calendar on your refrigerator could help with knowing dates of school closing, first day of school, etc.

Millburn is not closed, but Livingston is. The randomness of area school schedules always amazes me. I guess because the towns seem so close together, it seems like there should be some cohesion. It doesn't really matter if we are in school when another town is not, I just probably notice it more because I teach kids from at least 15 different towns.

There is a movement to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day. I think that is a great idea.

Or changing the holidays to be what they really have become in a lot of ways- a day off work to rest, recharge, be with family. I know, it's so unAmerican, it will never happen. But we don't have to "celebrate" something that doesn't have significance for a majority of the country just to have a holiday.

Millburn is, indeed, closed. No school for students. Teachers have a professional development day.

West Orange has school tomorrow

Millburn is closed? i assumed they were open because the Paper Mill classes have always followed the Millburn school schedule, and my husband thinks he teaches today! I better have him check on that one cheese

Millburn is closed, but some of the pre-schools that follow Millburn's school schedule are still open. It's weird, I know.

Feel free to join the PTA Board and get more involved.

Schools are closed in Spain.

In UK sometimes they are called "bank holiday"
