Roca Construction - Excellent Carpentry and Masonry

Mr. Roca is an excellent contractor. His team is professional, highly skilled, responsive, careful, and neat. They are real perfectionist. This company just completed a gut rehab of my sun room and redid my sidewalks and driveway aprons.  The carpentry was very impressive. The mitered corners were skillfully completed. The floor and ceiling beautiful, and the paint job was perfect.   Their work on our sidewalk and aprons was so well done - that five of our neighbors hired them as well to re-do their sidewalks too. Now we have a whole block of beautiful sidewalks.  Mr. Roca's team are also friendly, considerate, and quiet. They tidied up each evening.  They have good work ethics and show up on time. They did not rush the work and as a result and most importantly, their work product was excellent.  I highly recommend this contractor.  We will definitely be hiring them again for future projects.

and now a word from our sponsor...take out an ad next time...

The OP is not the contractor.  She is clearly sharing her experience on MOL to spread the word about a solid contractor.

I actually thought the below comment was pretty snarky and totally unnecessary, Judy3X  why the heck would you assume this?

I don't know either of the posters, but the OP did seem a bit over the top--mitered corners, work ethics, five other neighbors, etc. etc. I can understand why it might make a reader suspicious. It would be interesting to know whether anyone else had a similar "perfect" experience.

I was ready to give Roca an electrical+painting project in my house because the price was good and Roca was a personable guy, but when I checked closely, he didn't have contractors insurance or an electrician's license (which he said he did).  So the job went to someone else.

@katherinedefoyd - where is your "block of beautiful sidewalks?"  I want to see this.

Did your work need permits ? not sure how he could pull electrical permits without a license

Lol - MOL where no good deed goes unpunished.  The OP is not the contractor - this I know for sure.

eliz...and the truth is revealed. "he didn't have contractors insurance or an electrician's license (which he said he did)."

@new207040 - I'm not sure if this job needed a permit, but the licensed electrician that ultimately did the work did not pull a permit.  Not sure I recall if he offered to pull a permit.  My opinion is that a contractor who is working inside your house should carry insurance.  If a contractor is fixing a sidewalk in front of the house maybe insurance is not needed.  Additionally, any electrical work needs to be done by a licensed electrician and I check licenses.  A lot of people know how to do electrical (including myself) but having a licensed person is insurance that the work is done correctly.

We hired Roca to redo our porch based largely on OP's review, and it has not been good.  His workmanship is fine,  good even, but he runs a real sketchy business.

Asking us to write out our own contract for him to sign at the start and then to make the deposit check out to his name and not his company should have been a big red flag, but we went ahead anyway.

About halfway through the project he says he needs $1,000 cash that day.  We say that wasn't in the contract and he says he "doesn't really work off contracts", but trusts us, so OK.  Red flag number two, but work continues.

Then the kicker.  Closing in on completion he says he needs more money than we originally agreed to just to finish what is in the contract.  No reason given, the project just costs more now.  Oh, and has to be cash.

He's a personable guy, and they have done good work, but I would never hire Roca again and urge anyone reading this to look elsewhere.
