Rise of Skywalker

We saw it yesterday.  I thought it was god awful but better than any of the other sequels. My 8 year old loved it.  He said it was the best Star Wars movie ever.

I haven't cared for any Star Wars movie save 4,5 and 6. Watching 4 right now.

 Did you see Rogue One?

I don't remember. Maybe. It was on TV today, and I started to watch it, and it vaguely rang a bell, but then I lost interest.

I liked it. I liked all the new trilogy, actually.

Thought this was a sweet acknowledgement to a fan’s courage

Re the film itself, my brother took my nephew to see it last week, they both enjoyed it very much. Partly because they went to a fancy cinema with the all-effects seats.

Saw it tonight - I liked it!  Nice to have closure on this ennealogy after 43 years.

Me too!  Having seen all of them since 1979, it wrapped things up nicely and was really entertaining!

So did I.  They veered off course with Luke in Episode 8, but redeemed themselves a bit in the final chapter.

I hear this from people but it is hard for me to see.  I thought the whole thing was dreadful from the beginning of Episode 7 to the end of Episode 9. The plot was absurd, even by the standards of sci-fi. Poe Dameron was the worst character in the entire franchise.  His surviving cremates would have fragged him as soon as he to back from losing his entire command while disobeying a direct order. The best part of each of these movies was the preview.

* I say this as a huge fan of the original trilogy and Rogue One and as someone who tolerated the prequels.

There was no reason NOT to shoot the escape pod carrying C3PO and R2D2 at the beginning of ANH.

Also, Leia, knowing that the Falcon is being tracked, leads the Death Star directly to the rebel base on Yavin 4.

Finally, having shown that it can happily blow up a planet, the Death Star decides not to blow up Yavin itself first, but give the rebels time to launch their fighters while the DS ambles slowly around it to go for the moon.

But... this is all academic. I enjoyed them, you didn't. Each to their own.

The prequels are festering piles of dog sh$t but George Lucas fell desperately in love with CGI before it should have been used (among other issues).

I don't think anything could have lived up to people's expectations for this movie. I enjoyed all three of the Rey/Poe/Finn movies. Nothing will ever compare to what a 10-year-old me felt when I saw that first movie in 1977, or the excitement for the second a third movies. Maybe that's what a lot of grown-ups are forgetting.

I think the untimely death of Carrie Fisher denied the final movie a large part of its heart. The scenes with her felt surreal and empty, I'm sorry to say.

The big twist about Rey seemed a little derivative. I was happy with her not being an heir to a powerful Force user and I liked the message that the Force is for everyone.

(Also, Han Solo straight up sexually harasses Leia, who has shown no interest in him, in Episode 5. I cringe when I watch that scene now. There's plenty to pick apart with alllll the movies.)

It was a calculated gamble on Leia's part and the Empire didn't think the rebels were a threat.  But, as we all know, traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops. Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, unless you are light speed skipping.

The lack of continuity, even within the trilogy itself, is frustrating because would have been so easy to avoid.  Make an entertaining movie but don't punish people just because they happen to have been paying attention.

I entirely agree, in general.  Of course, this thread is a place to discuss the movie, so I would think that some discussion and even, heaven forbid, disagreement is probably inevitable.
