Richard Thompson at NJPAC, 4/22/15

OMG, Richard Thompson is appearing at SOPAC on March 15.

Pre-sale & VIP tickets are now available using the password: Beesweb http://smarturl.it/RTMarch15

Thanks for that tip! I just got front-row seats. I've seen RT a million times and haven't loved his last few records, but SOPAC will be a great place to see him, and the ticket prices are pretty reasonable, considering.

Did you hear the one he released this year, Electric? It's the first album of his that I've truly liked in 20 years (and I adore his earlier stuff). I'd recommend giving it a try if you're a fan and haven't heard it (it's aptly named: lots of amazing guitar). And it's great that he's playing SOPAC. He's always wonderful live no matter how weak the recorded material at the time might be.

I think I heard a track from Electric on the radio, but I haven't heard the whole thing. I'll check it out on the basis of your recommendation, Frank. And you're right, he's always great live.

I saw his electric show with full band in Montclair a couple years ago. Phenomenal.

Never heard of him but bought two tickets center orchestra. Thanks for the link and early-bird password.

The electric show is, er, electrifying, and he's had some wonderful backup singers over the years, including the sublime Christine Collister. But I think I love his acoustic shows even more. I saw him at the Guthrie in Minneapolis on the tour where he debuted "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," and I think it was the only time in my life I've ever been brought to tears purely by guitar playing. Usually I need vocals/lyrics to get verklempt. grin

Backup player for Annie Haslam in Steeleye Span, wasn't he?

Ive seen him a bunch too. With Teddy opening, there will surely be a duet on "Persuasion" one of the prettiest songs ever written. My favorite RT show...Shawn Colvin opening, then playing with the full RT band singing the Linda parts...then David Byrne came out for encores and Shawn Colvin stopped singing...RT had to get her to sing again! One of the Thompson-Byrne songs -- 96 Tears. The "1000 Years of Popular Music" shows were impressive and fun too.

Thank you so much kthnry … I love me some Richard Thompson and managed to score some nice seats at what I think is a pretty good price for this day and age (particularly considering I NEVER go to concerts any more)

Very much looking forward to this event.

Wow, mauras, what a thrill to have been there. The only thing better I can think of would be a warm puppy.

If you're not already an RT fan, this is probably his best-known song. This version includes the lyrics (on the Youtube page), which are helpful.

many years ago I was in a band that covered this:

You are a genius. An evil genius, but a genius. :-D

Tickets seem to be going fast. Only single tickets left in the center part of the orchestra (except for the last row). I just bought 4 tickets in the lower part of the mezzanine and sets of seats are available on the sides of the orchestra. I am very excited about this show. Richard Thompson in South Orange--and on a Saturday night!

Second show added! Sunday 3/16 at 7:30.

Great!!!! I couldn't do the 15th....

There are still tickets (including mine!) on StubHub for Saturday's performance. PM me if you want the cheapest ones and I'll sell them to you directly and save you the shipping cost.

Anyone? Best seats in the house!

He started out in Fairport Convention.

I've already got my tickets … and I can't wait. I gave up concert going years ago cause I kept sitting near folks who were there to chat and not check out the music … so don't do that to me SOMA. Enjoy the show but no screaming Freebird!!! or Vincent Black Lightning for that matter …

You don't have to ask for Vincent Black Lightning, he always plays it (for just that reason).

But be prepared, he talks with the crowd, and between songs people will talk to him and he will answer them.

Should be an interesting show! (I'm going Saturday.)

I don't mind him talking with the crowd … or possibly not even the crowd talking with him if it is solicited … but I hate the crowd talking with the crowd.

I hope there's a good turnout Sunday. They added the second show after the first one sold out so quickly. I hate to think of an empty house.

looks like there are still approx 30-40 tix avail for sunday

Last call on tickets for Saturday night:
Two (2) Row G Seats 106 and 107 Center Orchestra

at cost: $56 each
