If the service is competent and pleasant, the food is good for the price, it’s not too loud and there aren’t TVs everywhere, I don’t necessarily care about the decor.
The problem with a lot of the current restaurants is their design lends itself to really noisy atmosphere.

Increased noise is a result of the hard surfaces of industrial design.

The latest fad is "post-modern industrial." I do not find it appealing and will not return to restaurants that incorporate it.
You?
Absolutely agree!
Didn’t realize until recently how important ambience while eating out was important to me…
Not sure if you're referring to Arties but I really find its interior to be lively and inviting, though I'm not particularly a fan of the style you are discussing. If you're going to renovate a sizable old industrial/garage space like that, you'd havr to do a whole lot of work to make it look like an old fashioned restaurant.
Not just Artie’s and agree that there is only so much you can do with an actual garage

You can have that design/style and still have sound-absorbant surfaces.
Sound is important. I like to be able to carry on a conversation with people I am with. But beyond that, a sterile, cold environment is not inviting.
Lately I find that public-use toilets are all too low. I’m almost sitting with my knees bent up towards my shoulders. Huh?? Why??
It might be easier for children but it doesn’t keep the narrow stalls cleaner nor does it help women over age 35y lever themselves upright - especially in ‘soft’ lighting!!
Thank you for letting me rant.
You have public use toilets? Ask the authorities to install grab (hand) rails.
Why only women? Men can sit also.
Grabrails means the cubicle is now designated as ‘accessible’ and has to to conform to many other Standards including the width of a turning wheelchair. They won’t do it. Won’t even install a ‘seat raiser’.
It’s just poor design, a slightly taller pedestal should be installed in the first place.
Since my last comment, I’ve broken my right upper arm. Badly. I’ve been in a gravity cast and collar-and-cuff sling for almost a week.
Grabrails only work if they’re on the side you haven’t injured.. Mostly the loos I use have paper etc on the right side, so I’m doomed.
i keep sliding off chairs, unable to get up off the floor. Hubby can’t lift me. Have called 3 ambulances this week just to get off the floor.

I hope, as in Hong Kong, ambulances are free. Heal up soon.
Speedy recovery!!!
Sounds like a devastating injury!!!
Couldn’t your husband bring over a chair and you could help pulling up with your left arm?
At any rate best wishes!!!
