Recycling pick up on 1/18?

Township website says recycling is picked up every Monday except holidays, in which case it will be picked up on Tuesday.   MLK Day is a state and federal holiday in NJ.

However, Waste Management website says "operating normal schedule" for January 18th.

So, should I put out my recycling tonight (Sunday)?

I put mine out.  If it is not picked up Monday, it will get picked up on Tuesday.  If Monday is the pick up day and I don't have it out, then I will have to wait another week for pick-up.

In the past the recycling company didn't have the staff for the Tuesday pick up so they picked up on a Monday holiday. IIRC that incident was very poorly communicated to people so a lot of residents didn't have their recycling out for the Monday pick up. As such I now put it out for Monday and if it has to sit there until Tuesday then so be it.

Recycling today?  yes- They were just here and coming your way. . .

They just picked up our recycling!

Village Green posted that it was NOT being picked up today. Half our neighbors had it out. Facebook swap also posted that it was NOT being picked up. Why does this have to be such a guessing game?

When in doubt, put it out.

Thanks for posting onceinawhile and carrielogo.  I put it out.

They are picking up.  If you still have time, put it out!

Saw the Gaeta truck pass by on the cross street as I was sweeping the sidewalk. They are definitely picking up today. Facebook swap is not an official source and I would look closely at who posted and what that post was based upon before considering the information accurate.

ETA:  I just went on the Village Green site and could not find the article referenced above.  Perhaps ArchBroad  could post a link to the story.

Where is/was this posted on VG?  I didn't see it there, but I assume that they were just posting the policy which says that pickups are postponed to Tuesdays for Monday holidays.

The town really needs to communicate better what is actually going to happen ahead of each holiday.

It was a regular post on Swap from Mary.  Correa had told her there was no pickup.

Mine was just picked up on Ridgewood.

I did see that later.  It is quite clear that the township and the contractor have not communicated well on this and that needs to be fixed ASAP (like before Presidents Day.)

If the contract with Gaeta says that holiday pickups will be rescheduled to Tuesday, then Gaeta needs to do that or renegotiate the contract.  For them to just ignore it is ridiculous, if that is what is happening.

Facebook Swap Lounge was linking to Village Green. They've already apologized for the info (but really, they got their info directly from someone at the township, so it's the township that has their wires crossed...)

Thanks for the clarification.

In this case, WM picked up today as if it was a normal day for them.  Gaeta may be following their lead in deciding which days constitute a holiday and which do not.

We need a listing on the town website and in an e-mail blast detailing which days are holidays as far as recycling pick-up is concerned.  This listing should be posted at the beginning of the contract year.  Otherwise, we will be faced with confusion every time a possible holiday falls on a Monday.

Recycling is handled completely by Gaeta.  WM and WI don't pick up recycling in Maplewood.

Someone elsewhere indicated the holiday pick-up schedule was indicated in the Maplewood newsletter, which then was unfortunately contradicted by someone else at the township to the Village Green.
