Professional Artists - Creative Placemaking Forum April 13th at NJIT

I wanted to share this information I received about an upcoming Creative Placemaking Forum next Monday the 13th, at NJIT. It's geared toward professional artists and graduate students, and gives an overview of the field of creative placemaking - one of those "buzz phrases" you seem to hear everywhere these days!! I know there are lots of artists on MOL so I wanted to be sure folks were aware.

You can find more information and register at http://centerforcreativeplacemaking.net/

Do you have what it takes to be a Creative Placemaker?

Want to learn more about what Creative Placemaking is and what it takes to be the Artist Leader in your community?

Hosted by Rutgers University-Newark and New Jersey Institute of Technology Theatre program, the Center for Creative Placemaking will present a 3-hour broad look at this new opportunity field for professional artists from all disciplines and graduate arts and design majors.

We’ll talk about artists engaging in a civic capacity, deliberative culture, becoming an agent of change for sustainable community growth. We’ll look at ways you can create new avenues for your art as well as a possible new professional pathway for you through social-centric entrepreneurship!

You may think everyone knows what "placemaking" is, but I, for one, did not. Found this on wikipedia:

Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well being. It is political due to the nature of place identity. Placemaking is both a process and a philosophy.

Ooh! Good link. Explains it well. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks @marylago! That's a really good point. I work in the arts and I feel like I've heard the term creative placemaking frequently in the last few years, but that may not be true for everyone!

Bump! Coming up on Monday!
