I just got this information from another resident, but it goes something like this:
The safety standards around diving boards were tightened years ago, and many town pools, like South Orange's were "grandfathered" to keep the older non-compliant arrangements.
Once the diving boards needed to be serviced, or replaced, the companies that do such things are certified to do it according to modern standards, and the updated diving board situation is what is mandated by the law.
That's too bad. But SO was one one of the few pools left with a high dive. I am still surprised Maplewood has platforms.

Does anyone know when and why they removed the high diving board at the South Orange pool?
I haven't been to the pool in a few years, but I walked by yesterday and I noticed there's only one low board.
