overheard conversation at able baker that i wish i hadn't heard

Group of older guys sitting in front of Able Baker. A young woman walks by.

"Where are her clothes?"

"I like-y."

WOW ~ Sometimes people are oblivious of their surroundings and talk too freely.  Happened to me one time at work.  We worked in a cubicle area.  The cubicles were high so you couldn't easily look over.  I worked in a corner with a guy behind me who had the window cube.  Welll...... his buddy comes over to talk about a date he had the previous night.  Needless to say it really got a little graphic.  After a few minutes, of this, I walked around the cube, they both looked up and I said "I can hear you".... LOL red faces.  They forgot I was there !

You know...yucky. Unless they were also rich.

how young are we talking?

Why do the ages matter on either side?  The comment was inappropriate and sexist.

Oh please! This kind of misogyny belongs in the dark ages. Grow up.

Old doesn't equal yucky. Or does it?

We were in Vegas and my FIL suddenly says "Silicone!" We were confused, then he points at a woman wearing a Guess shirt and says "Her shirt says guess. I'm guessing they're silicone." Thankfully I don't believe the woman heard.

Just one of 5,638 reasons why we almost never see the guy anymore.

I'm glad you're not around to hear my wife when she sees a good looking guy in the street.

older guys - retired guys. girl young enough to be their grandaughter.

@togetherness  ~~ does "I like-y" mean what I think it might mean??

Perhaps best to stuff that group with a few Syrian refugees that aim to lift your skirt and grab your behind as you innocently pass on by half dressed- or so it seems.  I dare you to call them out next time instead of hiding behind a bs post like this one.

I say you snooped- so you got pooped.

That's the only explanation that makes any sense.

Look, you can't put a positive spin on the comments these guys made about, I'm guessing, a teenage girl.  Don't even try.

Likey is racist?

I think it is more making fun of certain accents of people who speak english as a second language.

Yes, it's a slur against Asian accents.

But not every offensive remark is racist.  Of course, the modern usage of racist has more or less no relationship to the dictionary definition.

I took it to mean "I likey". As in "me like".

"Me like" is a slur against drumming muppets.

I would have never even imagined that like-y had any kind of racial connotations.

As for men oogling a younger woman, to each other (and not to her), a little gross if they were "older" but far worse things in the world

...who can forget 1935’s Charlie Chan in Paris, when the nefarious Max Corday insults the sophisticated Chan by speaking to him in pidgin:

Max Corday: [in a condescending pidgin English/Chinese accent] Me happy know you. Mebbe you likee havee little drinkee?

Charlie Chan: Very happy to make acquaintance of charming gentleman.

[imitating Corday]

Charlie Chan: Me no likeee drinkee now – perhaps later.

Think about that:  Even in 1935, when Hollywood was still creating segregated movies and engaging in the worst types of stereotyping regarding blacks, Asians, Hispanics, etc., Hollywood and America understood that the pidgin phrase “me likee” or “you likee” was deeply disrespectful and demeaning.
