No heat contest?

Cheaper is right. I paid $4/gallon at the end of last winter and just paid $3/gallon last week to fill up. That's a huge drop.

Indeed, big change in price of oil, my budget just does not allow a switch to gas,and after all of the gas pressure problems I have seen here and in my neighborhood, why switch now?

I'm out. It got real cold downstairs this morning and the plumber just came to do the annual tune-up/clean out, so he had to put the heat on to test it. Somehow I just can't bring myself to shut it off now....LOL! :-D

Where did you get oil for &3/gallon...knew it was down but not that low!

Apollo, just a couple weeks ago.

We will probably turn on our heat tomorrow. We wanted to make it until November 1!

Steam radiators never smelled so good! We made it to November!

I'm out. Damp chilliness has to go. But I told myself I'm just making sure the furnace is working properly.

58 at the thermostat when I woke up, and I almost gave in, but it's up to 60 now and I think I can hold out! (There might be some baking later to warm things up a little, though!)

No heat yet. I still have my windows open and wear shorts and a tshirt in my apt.

No heat here as well. Lots of blankets and fleece jackets.

From a guy on the corner. I heard he is also selling Rolex watches if you're interested. ;-)

Furnace (sigh) on...

Mine is on ...got to Nov 1'st! I'm good!

Corey oh oh

We are getting our yearly maintanence done on Tuesday so we decided to wait until then.

Annnnnd I'm out. Was just too cold after soccer today, Oh well.

We still have not turned on our furnace. Maybe tomorrow?

Does anyone use a ceiling fan in the "winter" setting? Supposedly if you flip the switch it reverses direction. When it runs clockwise it creates an updraft, pulling heat from the ceiling and circulating it down. But I'm skeptical. Anyone have experience with this?

At Roman Gourmet one visit the fans were circulating the wrong way for the season. I mentioned it to the

people at the register. A few weeks later I returned, not even thinking about the incident. They told me it made a world of difference, especially standing in front of the hot pizza ovens.

We reverse our fans. Thermodynamics work.

Worked in my last house as long as the fans were set super slow. If they were too high and moved the air too fast the cooling properties of air moving across the body negated the effects of circulating the heat. The thermostats read warmer but it still felt cold. In the current house all the fans are one way.

Is it too early to start the 2015 contest?

Because my word it's chilly for June.

I turned our heat on this morning. I also enjoyed a hot cup of tea. I regret nothing

The question is whether this counts as an extension of the 14-15 heating season or represents a new contest season.

In my house it's academic ... One of us would never survive past October without heat anyway!

First week of official winter here in Australia. I am resisting bringing heating into the house so early in the season (that would be bringing in column heaters for the living room, kept for the rest of the year out in the garage). So I'm huddling under a granny rug on the couch. Here on the Gold Coast where it's sunny one day, perfect the next (apparently) our nights are currently 11 degrees C and our days 18.8 degrees. That's a shade under 52degrees F min to just under 66degrees F max

I believe marksierra had single digits all day, poor man. (46 degrees F?)

I saw this thread at the top of the list today and wondered if our current (hopefully brief) bout of chilly weather had people turning on their heat, but now I see that it is our "other side of the world" friends. oh oh

I looked at my thermostat last night and realized that, if it was October, I probably WOULD have turned it on last night. But no way am I passing up a chance to cool off my house in advance of the next onslaught of summer. (I did put an extra blanket on the bed and wore warmer jammies last night though.)

Since when is South Orange the other side of the world? ;-)

We didn't turn ours on last night because it needs a little work, but if I could I might have!

I only joined in because someone in NJ revived the thread!

No way I'm going through all the effort it takes to fire up Ol' Clankey for a short cold spell. That's what space heaters are for.
