I have been advised that it is better to wait until the weather gets cooler and the boiler has been running awhile. Lately that brings us closer to October. Is that advice wrong?
I usually buy most of my oil over the summer months due to decreased demand and more favorable pricing but that has not manifested this year. My tech reminds me when the cleaning is due thankfully.
What about price cap registration for fuel oil. Woolley offers that up until lthe end of the month. There is an extra payment of $36.27 per month from August to June. Difficult to know if it's a good deal.
I've found the open market to much more reasonable than the contract companies. This is the first summer in about 10 years where this plan of buying didn't save a bunch of money. I'm expecting prices to go down soon but may on the losing end of that gamble.

It really doesn't matter. There are valid reasons to do it before, after, and during heating season. As long as it gets done and the techs do a thorough job.

Has anyone learned more about the price cap $ amount? Yesterday spouse got an email reminding about signing up by end of the month, but the link didn't work and there's no information on the website.
I did not call but did receive another e-mail without a date. I did get an oil delivery yesterday, price per gallon $5.44. This was the highest ever!

That's the advice I've gotten also. Brings us well into October usually, if not early November.

This is true specifically to brand new boilers. All the oils used in manufacturing need to detach from the sides and little nooks and crannies inside the unit and settle either on the surface of the water or the bottom of the boiler. At that point they can be flushed or skimmed out of the boiler. The process happens within about 2 weeks of run time. Your 5, 10, 30 year old boiler needn't wait.

Every year everyone calls at once and the boiler techs go dizzy. Break the cycle! Get it done soon!
