NEWARK TERMINAL A SECURITY EARLY AM

any updates to the security situation at EWR terminal A?  the last posts seemed to be from 2016.

I have an 8am flight on friday ( united express)  I was hoping to get there at 6:30am.

My info is about 4 months old (I was travelling out of the American gates between April and June of this year, also at 8 AM on Mondays) and 6:30 AM should be fine, especially with Pre Check.  Which airline are you flying?

630 should be fine. I've flown United Express a lot out of Terminal A this year. Security is about a 15-20 minute ordeal.

Are you checking a bag?

It's also the worst terminal to hang out in so 90 minutes will seem much longer.

Your plan sounds about right.  Double check what time boarding begins and closes to See if you want to tweak your plan.

thanks-we will be checking bags  we have been assigned tsa pre on our flights for the past several years-I wont know till I get the boarding pass tomorrow

Even without precheck you'll be fine.

If you are taking United out of A, sometimes I find it better to go through security at C and then take the shuttle bus (NOT the monorail) from Gate 70 to Terminal A.

I assume this is for a domestic , not international flight...I always like 2 hours but that's just me. I'd actually rather be through security, sit and read the paper , and not worry about the time.

It’s a terrible terminal but I’ve never seen security lines horrible there. Flown out of there about 6 times over past year. TSA pre is always really fast. The only time it’s taken me longer than 5 minutes was one time when machines had to be shut down and re-set. Longest I’ve seen the other side is maybe 30 min at its worst. 90 minutes is more than enough. We’ve been shooting for 75 min before with TSA pre and it works out great.
