My wife and I have had pleasant experiences at Hamilton's Grill Room in Lambertville. It's quiet and romantic without being cloying. General consensus is the food is excellent, but the service can be a bit hit-or-miss. As I recall, we didn't have any service issues when we visited.

We loved Hamilton's! And there is a tiny bar/lounge across the courtyard called the Boathouse, if it is still there. Great place for a cocktail before or after dinner.
I wish I could share other's opinions of Hamilton Grill. It was one of the most disappointing meals we've ever had. Service was terrible and the food was just bad. We didn't get the sense that it was just an off night there either. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
We've eaten a few times at Station Restaurant Great food and service. There's also a cozy area downstairs to just relax with a nice glass of wine. https://www.lambertvillestation.com/dining
If you're up for a 10 min. or so drive to Frenchtown, go to The Mitford Oyster House https://www.milfordoysterhouse.com
And...if I can beg of you not to miss Oh Wow Cow creamery for an Ice cream. There is Nothing like it http://www.owowcow.com (Bring cash. They don't take credit cards.)

My friend lives in Lambertville and he said that he wasn't sure if it was Ow Ow Cow or O Wow Cow.
A twenty minute drive from Lambertville will take you to Matt's Red Rooster in Flemington. Worth the ride...
-s.
We've eaten at Brian's several times. It's great, and BYOB. You'll need a reservation.
Logan Inn (on the New Hope side of the river) was recently renovated under new ownership and the food is good. A little pricey.

Coincidentally, the owners of the Logan Inn are in contract to buy and renovate South Orange Village Hall into an upscale restaurant.

Thanks for the suggestion, soda. This is where we ate and we had an excellent dinner. The service was great and they were totally hip to my wife's food allergies.
Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions too.
we enjoy Manon on North Union. The newish pizza place, Liberty Hall (near o wow cow - further down north union) is fabulous as well

The Mrs. and I will find ourselves near the New Hope/Lambertville area on Sunday around dinnertime after dropping the kids off at camp, and we're looking to have nice "date night" dinner there before returning home (we kind of remember what that was like...). Any suggestions?
TIA.
