Need recs for towns in Maine that are within an hour of Portland

We want to go in mid August and rent a house somewhere that is sort of lively without being too lively, and close to the ocean. Anyone? Thanks!

My family have stayed in the Wells and Perkins Cove area of Maine, which is less than an hour away from Portland in August and have loved it.

That whole area around Pemaquid, New Harbor, Freeport ... I don't have the map in front of me, but aren't those in range?

Peaks Island is year-round and a short ferry ride from Portland, and other Islands nearby have summer rentals. Between Portsmouth NH and Portland are Kittery, Kennebunk, etc. Above Portland are Freeport (Wolfe's Neck Farm and State Park are worth a side trip, especially if you have kids) Bath, West Bath, Harpswell and Orrs Island.

I think Boothbay Harbor is around an hour from Portland?  Crazy busy? Maybe....spent a bit of time there, but not a lot.
