Need ENT

ISO ENT for College Student with Recurring Tonsillitis. Thanks

Our 12yo had tonsils/adenoids taken out last summer by Dr. Lowell Gurey at Summit Medical Group -- he did a great job. P.S. Definitely lose the tonsils. Our kid hasn't had a single sore throat since.

While you are waiting to see an ENT, when our daughter had recurrent tonsillitis (about 15 years ago), the doctor had her gargle several times a day with hydrogen peroxide. She also had a course of antibiotics, but the gargling had to be done several times a day for a month.

IIRC, the doctor said that the germs could work up into the folds of the tonsils and flare up again, but the protracted period of gargling, combined with the antibiotics, would wipe them out, whereas the antibiotics alone hadn't prevented recurrences.

She's 30 now, still has her tonsils, and hasn't had tonsillitis since that last time.

There's at least one other highly regarded ENT at SMG for this also. We saw and liked him when our daughter was dealing with some similar issues, although hers didn't result in a tonsillectomy, at least not so far. I'm trying to remember his name, but I think he might be head of the department there, which bodes well for going to SMG for this. (Actually, I'm a pretty big fan of SMG for almost everything medical, despite initial doubts when my primary moved in there a decade or so ago.)

Other names I received at SMG are: Dr. Gnoy (we have an appt. to see him next week) and Jeffrey LeBenger (Dr. LeBenger no longer treats older kids and adults for tonsil issues).

Thank you.
