I poke a hole in both the yolk and the white with a toothpick to prevent exploding (I use one of those plastic egg poachers you can buy at the supermarket)
I like to scramble the egg, then microwave. Mix in a little swiss cheese torn up into small triangles sometimes. It gets the kid that likes eggs in the morning off to school pretty quick (back in the before-times) when the frying pan was in the sink. But the egg does stick badly to the cups sometimes, even when well buttered.
The scrambled egg rises, but no explosion, so no cover needed.

Heh... I used to know automatically how long our microwaved "mug egg" took, but it's been a while. Also probably depends on the power of the microwave (ours is 1250W). Probably somewhere between 40-60 seconds .
I figured out how long to cook it by tipping the cup and peeking under the fluffy cooked part. If there was no more egg liquid at the bottom of the cup, it was done. If there was still some runny egg on the bottom, it needed a bit longer.

If we're talking more than just doing an egg in the microwave - here's a recipe for egg plus other ingredients which combine to make the most dangerous chocolate cake in the world!

Recipes for Mug cakes, of all sorts, are dangerous knowledge to possess. I have a few dozen in the computer but I pretend that they’re not there.
That said, I’ve been making scrambled eggs in the microwave for our parrots for many years. I use a 12 oz. paper coffee cup, and it feeds them for 2 or 3 days. I always reassure them that it’s nobody they know.
Tonight, they’ll be getting either cheese blintzes or the tofu chili I cooked last night.
I don’t think social media has led me to change much of my life and specifically my routine until now. This is how I make my breakfast now!! Thanks for sharing.
For a quick egg sandwich- use a small bowl or coffee mug. Oil the bottom a little.
Microwave for 30 seconds. I think I saw David Chang mention this somewhere.
