morgan's liquors?

anyone know when this might be slated to open?

They have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MorgansLiquors?ref=br_rs

I don't have a Facebook account so I can't see what's going on in there. The facade looks nice though.

I have an account. There is nothing on the page but the address and phone number.

I agree, the façade looks very nice!

I noticed when driving past the other day that the name was changed to Morgan's Wine Beer & Spirits with a nice logo on the door. Did a little digging and found where the logo comes from. They seem to have had it designed via some online logo design contest.

There's also some slightly information that you can glean from their statements about what their looking for.

They mention 'Captain Morgan', a pirate, and the 'Seton Hall Pirates' but then go on to say the name really comes from a restaurant from in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. I presume this is their lawyers favorite restaurant? Not for the food, just because it exists without the word Captain in front of it.

In all fairness, South Orange DOES has a tradition of naming things after restaurants in other countries. Logo looks enough like what happened after the Captain left the photoshoot and the tide came in. I have to guess he was headed to get a bite to eat?

Target audience is 2/3rd neighborhood residents (slightly above average income) and 1/3 college kids (Bud Light Lime drinkers?).

I'm definitely looking forward to what I hope to be a pretty good beer selection. I hope they realize they have a bona-fide beer snob living a mere 2 blocks away.

Now they just gotta open!

Well, I'm a little further away, but I am a bona fide beer drinking slob.

To be fair, I like beer. This just made me laugh.

Good to have some around! For an area that's supposedly made up of lots of Brooklyn expats the beer situation is fairly grim. Fortunately, the baseline of the country in general has risen to a point that life is generally acceptable most places, so at least our average beer availability is tolerable.

A&d has been revamped and has a good beer selection. Although total wine at essex green is my favorite beer/liquor store. Plus they carry vernor's ginger soda. I no longer have to wait for my aunt to bring me cases from ohio!

Total Wine is the best thing in the area that I've found so far. But I used to live in Washinton Heights, and Flair Beverages in Inwood is about as good as it gets in the City. Actually since it's only 40 minutes away, it still can compete to Total Wine since the selection is greater and prices cheaper. Just bring cash!

Wait, what?!? Vernors sold locally? This is good news.

surprised this conversation has not mention the Wine Library in Springfield! .... very nice beer selection, including a beer cave. looking forward to seeing the Morgan's beer cave..

Hopefully, they will have a good scotch/whiskey selection.....

anyone know the status of their opening (Morgan's)?

Go buy a sammich @Town Hall Deli & ask Tony or Matt...

Saw this on Twitter and Facebook earlier today:

drove past on sunday and it looked fairly well stocked, so looking forward to it. something to wash down whatever i make with the sri lankan grocery store's items. (seemed like an odd choice for a store in town, but... what do i know?).

Where is A&D? I urgently need Vernors! I was raised on the stuff.

A&d Is at valley & roland, but total wine at essex green is where we buy vernors. To note - they didn't have it last time we went. You should probably call first to check that it's in stock

and... it's open. hope it gets better.

Better than what?

Summit Kings sells Vernors too

better than what i saw when i went there yesterday. which was very run of the mill basic liquor store. which is fine. but there's one of those at the end of the block next to cluck u chicken. was hoping, judging by the facade, that it would be more high end booze. it just opened, so very hopeful that will be the case. it was still partially empty, so i'm sure a good part of it is waiting for deliveries. they did a nice job on the actual store.

Thanks. If currently nothing to write home about, I'll wait a while then.

They have a beer cave. It just needs a better selection of beer. I'm optimistic. And very excited to have them in town!!

question

I want to be a fan. I'm a big Munchies fan (plug for jerk chicken or ribs - best value meals in SO/MA).

Needs to have good craft beer selection. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the older I get, the less mass market beers appeal to me. This seems to be in line with zeitgeist, so shouldn't be too difficult to figure out, but the beers that used to be available at Town Hall Deli were totally uninteresting to me. Hope Morgan's gets the zeitgeist.

They are still receiving merchandise and setting up. The place is clean and bright and adds a nice-looking store to the block.

The staff I spoke to couldn't have been nicer.

It's a relatively small space. If they want to be financially viable they may not be able to devote a lot of space to craft beers. But if you want to make your own craft brews just buy some Rolling Rock and wring out a dishrag into it. That should give roughly the same flavor. surprised

Not a beer guy, huh? Not very credible. Certainly not incredible, in my book. Not asking for Total Wine type selection. It's pretty easy to find out the "craft" beers that are getting big market share these days - THD didn't have, IIRC, Sierra Nevada 5 years ago. that's passe at this point, but that's my point.
