More helicopters
Maybe they're covering the trains that are stuck close to Maplewood:
Shortly after 9:00 am two NJ Transit trains, one headed east toward New York City, the other headed West in the direction of Summit both came to an abrupt, unscheduled stop in the range of 100 feet east of the Maplewood Train Station.
According to NJT's website. Service on Morris Essex line and Gladstone Branch has been restored. "Morris and Essex line and Gladstone Branch rail service has resumed with limited service in both directions due to overhead wire issues at Maplewood. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross honored by NJ TRANSIT bus, private carriers, NJ TRANSIT Newark Light Rail and PATH at Hoboken, 33rd Street in New York and Newark Penn Station."
My husband said there was a bad accident on Rt 280, with helicopter involvement, like removing injured people. Maybe that's it.
Everyone here was incorrect! There was a carjacking near Irvington involving a child who was in the back seat. The child was not harmed.

Two different helicopters at two different times of the day. The one in Irvington was probably in the morning. The second could be to cover the news concerning the train situation.
We weren’t all wrong, just curious since the car was stolen on elmwood avenue very close to maplewood.

We heard the helicopters at about the same time that Jamie posted this. We turned on the TV and flipped through the local stations. We watched the "live shot" over Maplewood from "News Copter 2", showing repair work, while we listened to the helicopter hovering outside.
There were helicopters circling over Memorial Park most of the afternoon. It was because of the train situation, not the carjacking.

a scary incident involving a child. So horrified.
The helicopter is back. Overhead wire issues again in Maplewood. No train service between Broad Street and Dover.
From the NJT website:
"Important Notice:
Morris and Essex Line rail service is suspended in both directions between Broad Street and Dover due to overhead wire issues at Maplewood. Customers should seek alternate transportation. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ Transit bus and private carriers."
