Men: Where do you keep your wallet?

Back pocket? Front pants pocket? Jacket pocket? What about when you are in the car?

I ask because my husband hasn't really figured this out yet. He always wants to put his wallet, which is nearing the thickness of George Costanza's, in my pocketbook when we are together.

Men, please weigh in.

Back pocket. Pretty sure anything else is wrong.

About a year ago I switched to a small wallet, which I keep in my back pocket. It took some conscious effort though as it meant really thoroughly pruning down to essentials. I think what's made it work for me is the rise of smartphones (so much that might have previously had to go in my wallet, like train tickets, now live in my phone) and the decline of cash (most everyone takes credit/debit these days).

Back pocket, but if I'm wearing a sport coat or suit jacket, I prefer to put it in the inside breast pocket. Same for the phone, which goes in the other side. Actually, when I'm wearing a sport coat especially (since they are usually less snug than a suit), all trouser pockets are empty. A wallet like George Costanza's may make this impossible, and I would show that episode to him as a cautionary tale.

Front pocket and the best money clip money can buy. Holds bills, driver's license, 1 atm and 2 credit cards - which is all a man should ever need.

I hate carrying a wallet but in cooler weather I can carry it in my coat pocket. And definitely never carry a wallet when wearing shorts. But I prefer the front pocket. I won't put it in my back pocket ever.

Several years ago in a London Train Station they announced there were known pick pockets in the Station.

The announcer advised men to carry their wallets in their front pockets. Been doing so ever since.

It's so bad for your back, though. And what about when you sit? That can't be comfortable. Especially when you are driving.

I used to carry a larger wallet (this type - http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Cordovan-Long-Wallet/611F,default,pd.html?dwvar_611F_Color=BLCK&contentpos=19&cgid=0479 ) and it was picked out of my pocket on the subway. Luckily I knew it when it was happening and I had no cash in the wallet - eventually the pick-pocketer tossed it on the subway floor after I made a bit of a ruckus.

I used to more or less do this, now I find I need stuff like health insurance and HSA cards all the time but never remember them. I have the smallest wallet that can manage all the crap I need to carry - and keep it in my front pocket.

my wallet isn't terribly thick, but I still find it uncomfortable to sit if it's in my back pocket. So I generally go with breast pocket if I'm wearing a jacket, and front pocket if I'm not. You can tell the back-pocket wallet guys are probably not city people. In the city, I avoid the wallet in the back pocket more out of concern for pickpockets than for comfort.

Front Left Pants' Pocket.

Front pants pocket...or, when wearing a jacket, in an inside pocket that has a button closure.

I could squeeze 4 or so more cards in there if I had to - never have / need that much cash on me.

I never understood keeping it in your back pocket. I've always kept it in my front pocket. Then again, I grew up in a city. Maybe I learned from my dad.

In a European carry-all grin

Seriously, though, front, right pocket or, in an inside, zipped or buttoned jacket pocket. Have never used the back pocket -- too uncomfortable and too prone to loss or theft.

Funny you should ask. Back pocket (left), but I keep cash separately in my front left pocket with a money clip.

The reason it's funny is because on Sunday I was walking around Times Square and a rather dubious looking gentleman offered his strong opinion to me that I should move my wallet out of my back pocket to my front. He was probably right, but I had my back pocket buttoned so I figured it'd be hard for a pickpocket to take it. (Or not - what do I know about pickpocketing?) I didn't move it though.

My husband keeps his in his front pants pocket because it is less exposed to pick-pockets than the back one. (But I suspect that it is less convenient and comfortable for him.)

Back pocket unless I'm in a crowded area where pickpockets might be at work. Then front pocket. I also sometimes move it to front pocket if I'm seated for a long period of time (at the theater, for instance).

I've got 9 cards and $31.

It's actually the only reason I consider ditching American Express. Since not everyone accepts them I have to carry a backup.

Right now in my wallet...

Drivers license

Library card

Voter ID card

Visa

Mastercard

Amex

Costco

2 ATM cards

FSA card

Target cc

4 insurance cards (mme and kids)

8 loyalty cards

AAA card

Metrocard

2 movie ticket coupons

$72

Comfortably in my front pocket

This http://www.orvis.com/p/bison-buffalo-nickel-money-clip/1g8p in my front pocket.

  1. Drivers license
  2. Insurance card
  3. ATM card
  4. Primary CC
  5. Backup CC/Meals
  6. Train Pass
  7. PATH Card
  8. 4 business cards
  9. Some cash. Usually < 40.

I think that I have been doing front pocket for about 12 years. Previously back pocket.

I keep my work building pass in my laptop bag and move it to my back pocket when at work. It's in a hard shell so it know it's there.

Yep.

The notion that there is a "wrong" place for a wallet is silly and, frankly, something I'd expect to hear from a woman, not another guy.

Ha! Probably a front pocket weirdo. (insert appropriate emoticon that I am too manly to use)

Figures. A back pocket nut who determines his manhood based on his use of emoticons (or not).

:-P

Now this is getting funner. Never thought there could be a front pocket/back pocket debate.

This is MOL. We can debate whether the sky is blue.
