McDonald's at Vauxhall Plaza Mystery - What's Going On?

At least a few times a month, I exit the Parkway going North at the Union (Vauxhall) McDonalds to get on Vauxhall Road.  For more than a month the McDonalds has been closed.  There is a turned off electronic sign outside.  I searched on line and all I could find was that it suddenly closed because of a roof leak, but was expected to reopen.  There is no other information and the main McDonalds site still lists it as open.  I know McDonald's announced lots of closures, but I could not find the list.  I'd think they would want to keep the Parkway one open--although it was in serious need of renovation.

that McDonalds makes bank. Like George "Boston George" Jung money. Doubt its closing. Its possible it's getting some interior updates as well as roof repair.

I know a guy who owns a few mickey d's I'll ask him if he knows the deal.

Ok, thanks, Freeway.  It's very out of date.  I would not be surprised if they tore down the whole building and started from scratch.

My uncle has been involved in the building of fast food places in this area (the wendys and taco bell on morris ave) and he was saying that that McDonalds might not have had any renovations since the early 90s.

You are correct, depending on the extent of damage and current building codes it might be cheaper to level it and rebuild.

bad roof leak and emergency repairs turned out more extensive so will take a couple of months.

Thanks.  They should put up a sign explaining that, and a "closed" sign on the highway sign.  There were multiple cars stopping by today thinking it was open and people walking up to the door.  There's no bathroom at that stop now, not even at the gas station.

For a while they did have the electronic signs saying gas only at Vauxhall but they stopped.

as if you couldn't get gas from the McDonald's when it was open

Went by this weekend and it was still closed with no sign of repairs being done.  Anyone have an idea?

They're opening a Chipotle there.

Maybe it was Arby's.

My assumption is that the Turnpike Authority owns the building, so fast repairs may take a long time.

Rest area food and restroom was open today.

That's great.  I drove by a few weeks ago and there was a "Now Hiring" sign.

Rest stops all along the Pkwy have been remodeled over the past several years. It looks like the one by exit 153 is now being rebuilt after being shut down for several years.

It must be miserable to drive though northern New Jersey on a long trip.  The Vauxhall rest stop had a sign that said 30 miles to the next exit with food/fuel/bathrooms.  Then 30 miles away that one was closed too.  I'm not even sure the one 30 back was open either.

It was open last night for food....

So is it just a McD's again?

can we not repurpose the existing structure into an artisanal cheese shoppe?

Haven't you heard the old saying? There are no Buddhists in Vauxhalls.

Good point. Then how about Japanese Nigerian fusion cuisine? There has to be a market for that, I mean who doesn't like udon noodles and jollof rice?

can someone tell me how to get on Vauxhall Rd from there? I tried the other night and was totally confused.

You have to go in the back and take the little road pointing right.  If you miss it, you end up on the little road going left back to the Parkway.  It can be a bit confusing the first time because you go through the back McDonald's parking lot.
