marylebone neighborhood in london

we are headed to london for spring break and are considering an airbnb apartment in the marylebone section. it's been years since i've been to london so i would appreciate input on the area from anyone who knows the city well and has been there recently. thanks!

don't know it well but went there a few times for an amazing fish & chips place. I walked around a bit each time and it seemed a very nice, quiet area. And it was a fairly easy tube ride from where I was staying in more center city

Very cool neighborhood... At the higher end of affluence and the townhouses are lovely.  Plus, there's Daunt Books... I'd be in there daily. ETA: If I'm not mistaken it's not far from the British Museum and above Selfridges.  Regents Park and Primrose Hill can't be far either.

Stayed there and in Kensington a number of times for work.  Fantastic.   Would come home from work and go for a run through Hyde Park.   Lots of eating options including great take out, casual dine in, etc.  Easy walk to multiple Underground stations depending on where you are.  What's not to like?

Let us know how you like it! We are looking to book a place for fall!

yes to Maylebone! One of my favorite neighborhoods. It's a great location- close to regents park (which has magical gardens-my favorite city park ever), close to Oxford st, lots of great restaurants and shops, selfridges. My favorite restaurant in the area is a small Lebanese place called Fairuz on Blandford st (I think). I miss their food so much. Tiny place, so good idea to book. There are also great crepes in the French place in St Christopher sq. do stay there and let us know how you found it! (I wish I was going)

Another thumbs up for Marylebone.  Great central location with charming, townhouse-lined streets, a diverse selection of restaurants and pubs, and good access to transportation.

now I want to stay there! Please let me know if you find a good Airbnb!

The only possible downside I can see is if your airbnb is a bit crap. Otherwise, as everyone has said, Marylebone (pronounced "MAHralabun") is a great place to home base your excursions around London.

It's a great area. Many years ago, I worked in Portman Square.

@catch22 - My favorite story about running in Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens:  One day as I ran past a bench, a somewhat unkempt gentleman sitting on the bench and holding a bottle said "You're going to die just like the rest of us."

That's great.

How did the party go in Portman Square?

I cannot tell you; Juliet was not there.

And how did Lady Gaster's party go?
Juliet was next me and I do not know.

Excited for you!

I will be in London for half of April for a conference but I am making time to go to the Tracey Neul's shoe store in Marylebone.  I am an obsessed fan from afar.... hoping to try them on for the first time and perhaps buy a pair grin  Among other things, they make shoes out of reflective material for bike riders!
