Maplewood Man Found Guilty Of Punching, Kicking Woman In Road-Rage Incident

See:  https://dailyvoice.com/new-jersey/essex/police-fire/maplewood-man-found-guilty-of-punching-kicking-woman-in-road-rage-incident/773938/

First paragraph of above article:

A Maplewood man faces up to five years in prison after he was found guilty of beating up a woman who he felt was taking too long getting out of a car [emphasis added], the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Just be happy that no one on MOL (that we know of) got tangled up with this fellow when pulling in or out of a spot.  Scary!!!

PS Victim was not identified.  Hopefully this conviction allows the victim to move-on.

He faces up to 5 years, but what will the judge actually give him?

If the criminal history of that nanny cam dude a few years ago is any guide, probation.

I’m trying to understand how being slow to get out of a car is rage-inducing. I understand (although certainly don’t condone) anger at someone being slow to get out of a parking space or start up when the signal turns green, but getting out of a car?

I do. Mental illness and/or stress. You don't need a reason to get someone pissed off.

Good thing we're not in some southern sh*t hole where anyone can carry automatic weapons.

Pure speculation: maybe her car door was open and blocking access to his car. He decides she's lollygagging specifically to piss him off and physically drags her out of the car and assaults her.

any inkling on where this took place.

Example of a southern sh*t hole?

I believe "southern sh*t hole" is the French name for Florida.

Mental illness, IDK maybe. Stress? That’s no reason. It’s probably just plain old criminality.

Everyone is inferring an awful lot from a very short article. Does this guy have a record? A history of violent behavior?

Was there a verbal altercation preceding the physical?

I'm not defending what the guy did, it was clearly horrible. But we don't know anything about the circumstances other than what he was convicted up.

Since that would include nowhere in the United States I suppose you mean Mexico? Nicaragua? Where were you referring to?

I thought he was being wrong.

As usual a discussion will turn into semantics.

Concealed firearms (or in the vehicle) of any kind could have made this a much uglier situation. How about we start from there, and not quibble over a six-shot revolver or a 13-round Glock or AR15 with a 50 round clip.

For the “long on opinion short on facts” crew: find me the jurisdiction in the United States that allows “anyone” to carry “automatic” weapons.

Find me the jurisdiction that allows “anyone” to even own weapons considered Class III under the NFA, which ALL “automatic” weapons certainly are, anywhere in the United States.

Wrong and strong guys. But you have opinions! And precious little else.

Serious people discussing serious issues as a moral imperative are careful in formulating their views and precise with their words when expressing them. Clowns aren’t.

Honk honk. Nice nose.

I endorse that standard. Let’s see if I can rephrase BG9’s comment to meet it, even at the risk of taking BG9’s point in a completely different direction:

Good thing we're not in some state where anyone who meets legal requirements, but who is also (like, really, anyone) subject to moments of impulsive rage, can carry a military-style semiautomatic weapon with a large-capacity magazine.

Like I said I don't think the type of firearm matters, more the ability to carry it wherever you want. A flintlock pistol could have turned this into a much worse situation.

Just to be clear, I was only trying to remove any spritzing boutonnières from BG9’s remark so JacksonFusion could continue discussing a serious issue without getting his face wet.

It would be nice if that were true but even serious people discussing serious issues can be imprecise.

If I am wrong then you can count the number of serious people discussing serious issues in the world on the fingers of one hand, maybe two.

Who knew so many could fit in that little car.

Better joke: Did you hear about the man who got cooled to absolute zero?

Punchline:  He's 0K now.
