Local Chinese Cooking Class

I got so sick and tired of bad Chinese takeout in WO, I started to make my own.

I would like to take classes to make more diverse Chinese food.. Are there any in the area?

I would take that class....and for same reason.

until you find one you tube has several -

It would be great to have a class at that new Asian grocery on Morris Ave that  opened recently (golden valley). So many interesting things there, esp greens and veggies, would love to know how to make some of them. I inquired, but they have no plans to have classes or instruction. Sadly.

love Golden Valley, actually like it better than Kam Man, probably because it is much brighter and less crowded

I've been checking out blogs and the YouTube site, but want more hands on.  I bought a good wok and it is a very easy cuisine to cook as long as all the prep work is done ahead of time.  I dislike a lot of the NY Times Chinese recipes, I find  them to be out of balance and not authentic  I also went to the library and took out books to look up recipes

@kidsbooks I am going to ask at the supermarket for tour/class of veggies and spices too, great idea!

King's in Short Hills often offers Asian cooking classes.  http://kingsfoodmarkets.com/cooking-studio

Ms sumida. Let me know if you do a tour of the store. I would be interested.

Check out Fuchsia Dunlop, she's a british chef who was the first westerner to be trained at the Sichuan Institute of Higher Cuisine and she's written several cookbooks on Sichuan food.  Her best book is probably "Every Grain of Rice", which has recipes from several different styles of cuisine from China. She also includes a great deal of information not only on Chinese ingredients but the cooking techniques as well.

kings isn't offering any right now

Yes, I recently bought Every grain of rice. It's different from other Chinese cookbooks, everything looks wonderful, but I'm still stuck in reading it and drooling mode.

Several  area communities offer community /adult school programs. Likely too late for a fall session but spring catalogs might be online.

I know that Montclair , Caldwell/West Caldwell , and MapSo all have these programs. Summit used to but they discontinued it .
