Lenox Ave./Lenox Terrace Traffic

There's a meeting about this tonight, but I can't find anything about it on the village web site. Anybody have information?

It was discussed here:

What exactly is the proposal? I understand that it involves routing traffic off of Lenox Ave., but to where specifically and in which direction?

As for the safety of Lenox and Wyoming, I must have pulled out into that intersection a thousand times over the years. I see it as dangerous because there's poor visibility -- a problem with all too many intersections around here. I have no reason to believe that the visibility is any better coming up from other streets. Changing the landscaping so that there are clear lines of sight would be a big help.

I understand the neighbors opposing re-routing traffic on to their street, but who is spearheading the effort to divert traffic from Lenox Ave and why?  I am sure everyone would like no traffic on their street, but that this is even being entertained seems silly.

Are the residents upset over speeding cars or over the amount of traffic?  Or both?  I went on a walk on Lenox Avenue on Sunday and I have to admit that I was surprised at the amount of traffic it got on a summer weekend.

I feel their pain to a certain extent since I recently moved to a street that connects between Valley and Springfield.  It's overall pretty quiet but it can get some traffic particularly during rush hour which has really gotten to me at times.

I'm not sure what can be done for Lenox Ave. without hurting other streets other than to put in traffic calming measures.  Personally, if my house had a speed bump right next to it, I might go crazy having to hear cars go over it.

Lenox Ave is the easiest cut through when you are coming down South Orange Ave and want to get down to Ridgewood Ave in Maplewood.  The intersection of Lenox and Ridgewood is terrible, especially if you are on Lenox coming from the direction of Walton Ave.

I have not heard any detailed proposals.

From the Facebook discussion I saw, it seems like a few residents of Lenox got on (or formed) a subcommittee and are proposing to have their street blocked in the middle, which would divert traffic on to Lenox Terr, Cedar, and probably Winthrop/West End.  It didn't sound like they have professional traffic studies.

I would agree with Tom that landscaping changes would do much for the intersection with Wyoming. I can't see closing off their street at the expense of neighbors without a fight, which may be why the proposal is being made in August, when many of us cannot attend meetings at the last minute to register opposition.

they close lenox during school hours already i believe?

I would say it is one of the three easiest, along with Cedar and West End...closing off any one of the three would obviously have a negative impact on the other two, so the standard of proof on any proposals will need to be rather high.

Lenox has been closed to access from SO Ave for years already, not that I'm certain some don't follow the rules

The concern is on Lenox Ave between Wyoming and Ridgewood Avenue.

OK, not clear from the postings in this thread.  I lived on Lenox for over 15 years, between Wyoming and SO, when it was legal to turn on to SO to Lenox and when it was legal to make a left onto SO from Lenox.

Guess that makes me old. grin
