Legal weed is here! Finally!

Looking at the menu online, prices seem pretty high, compared to current prices in other states. But that will likely change as more stores open and more product becomes available. It's been 10 years since it became legal recreationally in WA and prices are cheaper than in MA, which only legalized a couple of years ago.

Only in Maplewood:

“Legal weed is here! Let’s talk about the taxes.”

I mean, it's not like *I* need it, but I know people who do.

In NY it seems the peddlers have taken it upon themselves to forego the licensing part. WSQ is an open air flea market for cannabis products. Even more so than at any other time in its history
oh oh

I was in Washington Square Park recently and I couldn't believe there were at least 18 little stands set up selling weed. It wasn't clear to me exactly what they were selling, I was there for another reason, but they seemed to carry on unmolested by the local gendarmes.

Times have certainly changed. I've been smoking weed in one way or another for just about half a century and I truly never thought I'd live to see the days we're seeing now.

You can smell weed on almost every block when walking through NYC.

Anyone know if the new municipal sales tax is charged to those buying medical cannabis?

Here's a conundrum predicted by the seminar I attended a while back. There is a mismatch between the state and federal laws and depending on your agency/employer, they may not look kindly on the possibility you could be impaired at all on the job. This is about the police in particular but what about hospitals and other medical staff? Fire departments and ambulance crews? Teachers? Home health aides?

Sticky stuff to be ironed out.

Steve Fulop:

Directive issued today below. There will be no ambiguity on how JCPD will approach this + we will pursue legally if tested via the federal court system. Bottom line is trust is fragile between communities/police + we should make sure that there isn’t compromised judgement .

My employer has a strict no tolerance policy, even in states where marijuana has been legalized.

If you test positive, you are fired immediately.

Thanks! I think that's the state tax rate, though, not the municipal one.

Does that impact the separate 2% tax permitted to municipalities in which the businesses are located?

Summer of '66 marked my intro to maryjane, so that'll make... uma uhhhm uhhhh fifty-six summers this year. BTW: You got me thinking back to my reaction to the omnipresent, permeating aroma of weed when I arrived at White Lake in '69. I'd been an NYU student & s Fillmore East usher, but I wasn't prepared.

And now it's LEGAL! I expect that outdoor events like Maplewoodstock will be even  more interesting this year...

For edibles, at least. It's still illegal to smoke or vape in the park.

Let’s hope people respect that rule, especially at the Maplewoodstock.

I'm so sorry I'll miss the Maplewoodstock this year. I expect peeps will be tokin' all over.

Against my better judgement, I may take a ride over there today.

I went.

I saw the crowds.

I left.

From all I heard it was quite a party out there. Mid-day it was about an hour wait for a welcome to go in text but while waiting there were refreshments and folks to talk to. I heard it was quite well run. Although then I heard about the traffic at about 5 or so heading into Maplewood from the Home Depot area. Things will certainly ease up and perhaps in time the prices will as well. grin

On the LES storefront shops have already opened sans any type of permit. Not saying there haven't always been a few shops on the LES  oh oh but they weren't advertising.

I remember storefront pot stores on the LES back in the 70s.  I also remember buying an ounce of pot for $20 at college.  1971.
Back in 1979 or so, I lived in Ft. Lauderdale and moved a lot of **** weed Paid the rent. Oh, man, 1979 in Ft. Lauderdale. Pre-AIDS. The town crackled with sexual energy. I got stories.

After Ft. Lauderdale, I lived in Charlotte Amalie for a while. On St. Thomas.

Rambling. Stoned.

Gainesville had some of the best stuff mr T…

So much more fun over here… there’s a frikkin mushroom cloud over in the politics section

Met with the board last night and we're allowing it at the moment.

Here's the menu (I wasn't there - found this online):

Still a huge line at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon. Still 4 police officers!

NVM, was able to get the info I needed exploring the site.

We were away last week, and I saw the line for the first time as we road back from the airport yesterday afternoon.  I chuckled.

Expect a substantial reduction in our property taxes?

Lines should decrease. Other stores will open soon.

Oh, I've lived here for too long to expect that.
