Judge rejects Trump's approval of Keystone XL pipeline

Construction of the pipeline is halted until climate change issues are addressed in Keystone's environmental impact statement.

This is a major victory and it should get more attention from the media.

Judge Blocks Disputed Keystone XL Pipeline in Setback for Trump

By Lisa Friedman and Coral Davenport

Nov. 9, 2018

WASHINGTON — As the Trump administration has moved aggressively to roll back environmental protections and speed up oil and coal projects, it has repeatedly been blocked by courts finding that the administration did not follow longstanding rules in making its sweeping changes.

Now, a federal judge has issued a repudiation of one of President Trump’s first acts as president, his decision to allow the disputed Keystone XL oil pipeline to proceed, saying that the administration failed to present a “reasoned explanation” for the move and “simply discarded” the effect the project would have on climate change.

On NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday right now.

Let's see if they keep following up and how they present the story.  I'm guessing that because it's anti-Trump it will get more exposure than Standing Rock did, or other pipeline protests all over the country, that get only local or zero reporting.

Just a suggestion, go to the Google, type in: "standing rock" pipeline site:nytimes.com

You'll see hundreds and hundreds of examples of not local, and definitely not zero, reporting.  And that's just from the NY Times.

It is good news, but it likely will only delay things (if they do their job they can win an appeal). So we also still have to win elections to fix stuff more permanently, starting with 2020.

Good article, but that doesn't absolve the media from giving the story -- and the issue -- more attention.

And they are giving it attention, so no need for them to seek absolution from you.

What's wrong with more media attention?

And why are you turning this into something personal?

It's not that.  In the first post you stated "it should get more attention from the media", leaving the impression that it wasn't getting media attention.

[Edited to add] Even from MSNBC.

Do we need to define "more?"

Edited to add: Is that MSNBC link about the Keystone decision?

Great news! I loved your old pipeline thread Paul. Hope this is a victory.

The right is already attacking Biden over his termination of the permit by TC for keystone xl. This will be a hot topic again I’m guessing. Even among the indigenous peoples of Canada and the USA there’s disagreement. From what I’ve read, it seems as though the tar sands from Alberta is much more difficult to refine, and has more of an impact on climate change. Would love to understand this whole issue better.

When I saw the thread I thought Paul was back! I've been meaning to comment on his FB page about this. Paul and I were both active on the pipeline issue and I'm friends with him on FB.

I saw a great post comparing all of the oil sources today. Sorry I didn't save it.
