They flooded the field a few times in the early 2000s, but then stopped for good.
When the weather stays extremely cold, the pond at Taylor Park in Millburn can be skated on. I think they have green and red flags to indicate whether skating is, or is not, permitted.

How about the duck pond in South Orange?
Doesn't it have a fountain, which keeps a small area ice free?
Also, skating is not easy if there is 6-8 inches of snow on top of the ice (and that in turn slows the rate at which the water freezes). For decent skating, you need a lake/pond where someone clears the snow off the ice.

Oct 18, 2013 at 10:59amThey were still ice skating in the park in the 1990s, because I remember taking my kids when they were small. Then we had a string of mild winters when it never got cold enough. And then they never flooded the field again. I don't recall discussion about it, but it was probably before 2000 (when I joined MOL.)
