How long is CHS graduation?

I need to make dinner reservations for out of town visitors and not sure what time is realistic. They will be staying in Madison and that is where I plan to eat. is 7 PM realistic? Earlier / later?

Also if anybody has an extra ticket, please PM me and earn my eternal gratitude! One member of the party will stay back in the hotel if necessary, but if I can get her a ticket I'd feel a lot better.

You should be ok for a 7:00 reservation.

That depends. Do you plan on clapping? grin

The bus back to CHS (for faculty members attending graduation) leaves at 6:30. Don't forget, the ceremony is not at Codey arena, so you might have to leave extra time to get to Madison.

Thanks all! Suzanne, thank you for that info. I do not even know what the Codey arena is so not sure how that would affect timing, but it sounds as if I need to let the restaurant know that we may be a little late. If they are not ok with that I will bump to a little later.

Codey Arena is the arena in West Orange ( by TBZ and Park and Ride) where graduation has been been held in the past. This year it is at Essex County College in Newark. West Orange is obviously closer to Madison than Newark is, thus you will need more time to get to Madison.

Oh, OK. I wouldn't have known where it was before - my first & only kid is graduating! Thanks again.

Does anyone know 1-what the ECC parking is like? 2-what time graduating seniors have to arrive there?

Here's the letter ( also posted on the HSA page) that went home to the seniors back in April.

Um, they are CHARGING students for their own graduation ceremony (per above linked letter) $45.oo upfront with no financial assistance offered? But they are offering financial assistance for the fee for an after-party? Methinks priorities are backwards here.

There is assistance available for graduation, too, but it is handled more discretely since it is administered by the school directly. sine midnight madness is an HSA function, they have not got access to the information the school uses, and so they need the families to self select for aid.

Why don't you try asking a question instead of automatically assuming that people are venal?

The after-party is sponsored, and therefore assistance offered, from the Home-School Association.

The graduation is provided by the school -- fee covers the cost of the cap and gown and diploma portfolio. I'm sure the administration can offer financial assistance if requested.

Two different activities. Apples and oranges... ;-)

ETA: I hadn't refreshed the thread prior to my post in reply.

Neither here nor there, but, some kids elect to skip out on the graduation ceremonies; the classroom is what counted, not marching across the stage to shake somebody's hand and get an empty portfolio. And even if they skip that, they might still attend the Midnight Madness.

Except that the letter linked to above covers both events in detail and is from the school system on official letterhead, directly from the principal. Why shouldn't I assume that it has the complete information that people should know about both events? Why would people be expected to guess that the school provides assistance?

By the way, I'm not accusing anyone of being venal. I was pointing out that someone at the school system was being thoughtless. Two very different things. Sort of like when I pointed out to a friend that something he said was wrong (as in "incorrect" or not supported by the facts), and he accused me of accusing him of lying, when I wasn't accusing him of anything. I was not saying he was a liar; I was pointing out that he was mistaken. Two very different things.

You accused the school of having its priorities backwards based on a single communication when you had not seen all the notes and communications that the families of seniors did. You jumped to a conclusion, erroneously, based on incomplete information.
