House under construction on Maplewood Avenue

There is a house on Maplewood Avenue on the way into town that has been under construction for

what seems like three years.  Are these guys getting paid by the hour?  It seems like this is the type of

building that work gets done when there is funding and stops when there isn't. Any thoughts?

There are lots of possible variables.  Finances, supply issues which lead to subcontractor issues, or permit issues to name a few.  The big one last year was the supply chain. If your plumber can't get parts he can't finish, which pushes back other trades who may be booked elsewhere and have to reschedule, etc.

its been forever!

Don't you save on capital gains if you own the home for more then 3 years?

For those of us who have lived with the construction noise for 3 years, it seems like a hundred years.

This construction started pre-Covid and before we had supply chain issues.

Baney Grumble… is the library in some sort of boondoggle? Does the noise affect you while you’re reading under the bridge?

Could be referring to the inflatable rat and demonstrators protesting use of non union labor on the library project rather than a noise issue.

Perhaps they should name the Library after Scabby the Rat.  Feels apropos.

Back to the house on Maplewood Ave....

Construction began approx. August 2019 and did not stop during the pandemic. It is loud. It is 6 days a week. It is annoying. At it looks nowhere near complete.

Contact the Town to see if they have the proper permits, etc.

shouldn’t be working on Saturday. Report it.

even if they have all the permits, and are following the law to the letter, the real issue is that the work seems never-ending. Between this work and an earlier such project on another home nearby, the neighbors have been putting up with construction for about 5 years without stop. It's annoying, especially for people who work at home, but I'm not really sure what can be done about it. The trend nowadays seems to be to buy a beautiful old home, then gut it and leave nothing of the original structure but the facade.  And that takes an awfully long time to rebuild. In this case, 3+ years.

It may seem like 3 years for the house on Maplewood Ave.

The 3 year anniversary of the start of the Baird reconstruction on Mead St. occurred earlier this month. The pace of work there is the polar opposite of what one would see with an Amish barn raising. I wonder how many barns could be built for the price of the reconstruction.

The Baird ran into a lot of remediation issues.  That type of construction is always harder than residential.  Everything has to go out to bid, which means specific bid packages have to be created, advertised, etc.  And the other trades have to wait for that remediation.

Imagine how fast they would have finished the village hall…

The work on the beer garden in South Orange has been ongoing for probably at least three years.

I hear they’re having open auditions for Season 2 of The Watcher on Netflix.  Might be an opportunity.

Figures.  Owners have been making promises for three years about when this place was going to open.  Now it's finally going to open (allegedly) and it's invite only. Buh bye.

Um, you are mad because they are having one night of invite only?  You can go every day and night after that.

Invitation only is a private party, not a grand opening.  Have the private party and then have a grand opening. Invitation only "grand opening" sends the wrong message, in my opinion.
