Alls I can say is: YEEEEEE-HA! Watching it on the news as I type this.
The woman attacked had the opportunity to address the animal. Given his history, and his behavior while awaiting trial, there is zero point in trying to rehabilitate him or find a way to make him feel the impact of his actions on others. No empathy, an empty void.
All that's left for society is vengeance. I wish she would have said, "remember what you did to me? That's nothing compared to what I'm about to do to you. The best you can hope for is to die surrounded by people who despise you. Every time I eat or use the bathroom I'll smile thinking about how you'll never do those things again without someone giving you permission, if I think of you at all. Bye."
Immature, sure, but unburdening and less than he deserves.

I don't ever want to see that video again.
I wonder what the parole terms are, if any?

Wigler imposed the life sentence for a robbery charge, and ordered that Custis serve at least 85 percent of that term before being eligible for parole. Under New Jersey law, a life sentence is 75 years. Custis would have to serve at least 63 years and 9 months, or 85 percent, before he could be paroled on that charge.
Let's hope that's true...

Excellent outcome. How old is the guy now? I assume he'll be in his 90s when he's eligible for parole. Everyone he knows on the outside will be dead.
Too bad his prior violent acts were not treated more seriously. Then this would not have been necessary.
I hope that the sentence provides some small measure of comfort to the victims: the mom, her child who witnessed the horrific beating of her mother and the victim's loved ones all. Watching the video made me cry in anger and sorrow. I cannot imagine enduring it.

The woman, whose name has been withheld at the request of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, said she suffered a broken bone in her back, broken teeth and a strained knee. She said she still has no feeling on the right side of her body as a result of the beating.
However, she said the emotional effects have been worse. She was forced to move and has been unable to work. She carries a security alarm device at all times, and she becomes anxious each time her door bell rings.
"He (Custis) has taken my sense of security. I spend more time in therapy when I should be spending it with my family," she said.
