Home invasion

It has me so shaken I must admit I put my house alarm on (with no entry delay) when I took my shower this morning.

That poor family, and what a brave woman to not scream so as to not alarm her child.

That little child hovered on the couch. The fear was so crippling she couldn't even scream.

So disturbing to know that people capable of this kind of thing are walking among us.

How did this monster get in anyone know ....did she have a screen door or something like that ?? ......frightening !!!

He banged the freaking door in. Its nuts.

According to Capt. Michael Palardy, the man kicked down the locked back door of the Cypress Street home just after 10 a.m. Friday and assaulted the female homeowner.
...
"The man viciously beat the woman," Palardy said. He added the backdoor was dead-bolted and the door-frame was heavily destroyed.

I don't want to watch that video - sad that it even has to exist. A horrible crime, I feel bad for the woman and her family. I hope they can feel safe again someday and that they catch this guy.

This is my biggest nightmare and my heart breaks for the victims. I hope that the guy "resists arrest" when they get him.

He'll be caught, and I can tell you by experience, they won't like him in the jail- not one bit. In the hiearchy, the only thing worse than a woman-beater is a child molester. With that video, shouldn't be difficult.
Keeping the family in my prayers.

I know. It seems its been a few years of the kind of crimes that are just unimaginable. Things that involve children. Things that break whatever few codes of human decency we had left. The kinds of things that no movie or tv can ever depict the horror of. Real life has been a scary thing of late.

This is totally terrifying. When I lived in the city we had several attempted break-ins where the perp was scared away once he realized we were home. My biggest fear is an invasion like this, where the perp has no fear and is violent.

Looking back on this attack, is there anything that could have stopped him? Sounds like the mom had the doors locked and she had an alarm system. I am terrified for my own family and trying to think what would deter this guy. Are these guys afraid of dogs? That's my only hope.

I really hope he gets his due in jail. What a monster.

Prayers for the family.

I don't blame you for not watching the video .. I just saw it and it broke my heart. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family. To think this can happen to any of us specially stay at home moms with the little ones.

I usually leave my back door unlock in case Sammie wants to go out to the back yard. But wow this video is scary ... Very heart broken.

Sickening. Watching the video I just wanted someone to come down from upstairs with a gun and waste that worthless sub-human.

Very sickening and you can see in the video this person is in no rush ... I believe he knew she was alone. No one breaks a lock door randomly unless you know a person is alone.

I wonder if he had been watching her home for some time before this happened?

The comments on 101.5 in general are from very low life forms. I never read them.

The violence toward this poor woman looks, to me, extremely personal. Just sayin'

I'd be surprised if it was personal. I think it's more likely the guy was hopped up on drugs.

Bet they are looking at the nanny and anyone else who recently did any work there. Somehow perp knew mom would be home alone with the kids, that there were valuables in the house, and that there was no dog.

I was thinking the same thing. This does not seem 'random' to me for some reason.

It could explain why the child was hovered over, saying nothing and not screaming. This bothers me so much, that part especially. Did she know this man? Had this happened before? Shouldn't we have a little more info by now.

Horrifying.

This guy is toast.

That is a very clear video and I'm sure it will be enhanced by the authorities.

Beyond that, while it was a bit unclear, it does not appear that the bastard is wearing gloves so his fingerprints will be everywhere.

It just boggles my mind that he would go to the trouble to kick in a door like that. I've never tried to rob a house so maybe I'm off base here, but I would imagine that most people would go for the path of least resistance--ie, NOT a house with a clearly marked alarm system, and if I had to kick down a door that was locked WITH a deadbolt, maybe I'd give up on the second kick and try a different house that had less security. Somehow this just doesn't seem like a completely random crime to me. I don't know. I think I'm rationalizing it because we live nearby and it makes me feel safer believing that this guy was looking for something in this particular house.

That poor kid to have to see that. Oh my god. LOL

LE won't release details of an ongoing investigation, nor should they. Video/photo only for help with public ID.

I don't find this so strange. It can be almost impossible to find your voice or otherwise respond as you think you would when you are in such a state of shock.

Unfortunately, that's how I react. This big mouth goes totally silent, and I often worry about that.

When a neighbor was murdered 12 years ago, we took comfort in the idea that she knew him somehow. Comfort because then we could go on feeling safe and I was pregnant and my husband was traveling all the time so I put it out of my mind. Turns out it was totally random, and he tried again in Maplewood to do the same, and only when they caught the guy quite a long time later did I feel chilled remembering all those nights alone in my house. Not to be too dark, but crazy people are out there and it's perfectly possible this was a total stanger.

I also opted not to watch the video. I really hope they catch this person. Meanwhile, we all much take care to lock our doors (not that she didn't).

There is now a $5000 reward in this case:

@afa, I agree with you. I'm probably just rationalizing, but who breaks into a random home at 10:30 in the morning? This is the complete opposite of a crime of opportunity, and it does seem like most in our area fall into that category (unlocked cars, people walking alone, etc)
