Welcome and all the best!
There have been a couple posts with lists of referrals for home inspectors. As for cost, it depends on how extensive. I expect the basic buyer inspection will be around $450, depending on how large a home and what systems buyer wants additional level of checking.
I used David Rose - Astute Home Inspections (908) 219-9192 (973) 768-7342 (Cell)
Jason Chang was another referral I got, he was not available as quickly as David was
I think I had a 3rd - can PM me and will check if want/need another referral, besides what you find from other posts
Joe Corsetto - Shelterworks. He provided an excellent report detailed with photos which I still I look at from time to time as things break (which he said they eventually would) and we get contractors estimating. He also found things needed repair immediately which the Sellers either fixed for us or gave us a credit. You should also get a whole-property oil tank scan.

It appears that we are moving within SOMA! Now is the time to locate a home inspector. First, does anyone have any idea what the going rate is for a home inspection? Second, who do you like and why?? What qualifications should we be looking for? We have not been down this route in a very loooong time. I can't even remember who we used the last time. Thanks!
