Have you seen our cat? Comet is over the Rainbow Bridge now

South Orange - Turrell Avenue near Seton Hall.

Our ginger and white neutered male cat cried to be let out around 3am last night. I was unaware when I left for school this morning that he had not returned. We searched under bushes in the neighborhood today, but I fear that without water on this rather hot day, in his condition, we are looking for his body.

Comet was around 16 years old and seemed to be failing.  He ate constantly, but still became very, very thin in the last few weeks and started eliminating in inappropriate places. I knew we would be visiting Dr. Levine soon, but I hoped that he could hold out until next week when our daughter moved back home. I will be making the various phone calls and shelter visits tomorrow, but please let me know if you saw him. Thanks MOL.

cats seem to find a way to get what they need....they find someone watering the lawn and help themselves...I assume you left a bowl of water outside....food is an issue as the ants tend to get it.
Had he been checked for diabetes?  That is treatable..

Symptoms do sound like diabetes.  I hope you find him soon, alive, and well.

2:30 pm HAPPY ENDING after almost 36 hours of anxiety and fearing the worst.

Thanks to the NextDoor network, a neighbor alerted me to a sighting.  Our Animal Control Officer, Melanie Trocone said that a wonderful neighbor called thinking he was sick or injured: saw him in the sewer on Irving and put food and water out! I ran around the corner with a towel, and there he was! He meowed at me louder than I had ever heard him before (I'm sure he was accusing me: "Why did you walk right past me several time and not see me hiding in here?!").  He was filthy and weak. Several neighbors were about, including one lovely lady who had comforted me yesterday when I explained my search.

A gentle bath showed me just how skinny he has gotten. We are seeing Dr. Levine tomorrow morning, but hope to put off the inevitable until Tuesday.

He wants out in the worst way - not on my watch!

Glad he's home. Sorry about the impending visit.  LOL

I had a cat who was sick and who we were going to bring to the doctor the next day. I foolishly let him out and never saw him again. I feel such guilt about that. My cats are indoor cats now...

cats do look thin when bathed....do you even know if there is a health problem like diabetes than be treated?  if it is diabetes you could have a lot more time.

mine has had periodic feeding issues...so i got a digital scale to monitor his weight...if you do find out it is diabetes you might want to start doing that once you start treatment.....you weigh yourself with the cat...then just yourself and subtract the difference

Glad to hear hes back home, hope he has a good visit with Dr Levine, best vet ever

It was obvious that he had lost half of his body weight in a short time and he now was very weak, had trouble walking, and cried out frequently. We helped Comet end his suffering this morning.  Dr. Levine found a mass, probably a cancerous tumor, attached to his intestines. We rescued him from the streets over 13 years ago.  He had a good life with us but we are still heartbroken.

Very sorry. He was a beautiful kitty.

Aw.  So sorry to hear this.  Maybe it's little consolation, but at least he got back to you.

Hold on to the good memories. What a sweet kitty

Comet is resting comfortably on the hood of a car somewhere (that was the spot, right?)

I'm so very sorry. They are our little furry children. May you find peace in knowing you gave him a good life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Since he was wanting so desperately to get out, perhaps he knew it was his time and wanted to find a quite place to let go. Animals will do this. But he was probably happy that he was with you, instead.

It's so hard to say goodbye; I just feel relieved that you found him so that he knew the comfort and safety of his people before passing, and you wouldn't be left wondering what happened. Still, it hurts. Wishing you peace.

I know how you feel.  May happy memories comfort you. RIP Comet.

Deepest condolences on your loss of Comet's physical presence.  He will never be truly gone as long as he remains in your thoughts.
