Gutters, "Bilco" Doors, Window Recs

Need recommendations for the following:

1 - Okay, sounds minor but one of our windows (with old fashioned three-track storm window setup) won't close properly.  While trying to put down the screen it got stuck, or one of the storm windows got stuck and won't budge. Nothing is broken, but I need someone who knows these storm windows to get everything into place.

2 -- Gutter cleaning. Need ASAP. Who's good and reasonable?

3 -- Gutter replacement/general work/positioning.

4 -- Our wooden exterior basement doors need to be replaced, preferably by a reasonably priced metal door engineered to keep water from flowing to the basement. I have heard of a company called Miele on Route 22 that makes these doors -- has anyone had experience with them? Are they still in business?

5 -- Basement floor. Need someone to remove basement carpet and replace with something different -- vinyl, maybe just level the concrete floor and paint....Need something that will dry quickly if there is water...

Thanks for any recommendations....

I also need some gutter work including certain areas that need replacement, realignment, etc.

Most places would probably recommend full replacement but I would like to avoid that.  Any recommendations would be helpful.

Metal basement (Bilco) door. -  Jaeger Lumber in Union is your best bet locally.

Basement floor.  - Chuck Dooley Flooring. 973-295-7513. He's installed rigid vinyl flooring for my daughter (condo) and a few friends. He just did Al Leiter's house! Good guy. Straight shooter. Tell him Dave's cousin sent you!

Can’t personally suggest someone for the Windows but have heard good things about Paul from 2GFN across from the high school on valley re window repair. Not sure the best way to get in touch but hopefully someone will chime in.

We used GLOBAL HOME improvement for a total roof replacement (Spanish tile to standing seam metal) on our last house and liked them enough to get them in here to replace the gutters. It cost less than I expect and made a big difference. Murray is the guy who’s come out to give us the estimate for each project and we would work with him again. If you get estimates for repair and want to price out replacement might be worth the comparison. https://www.globalhomeinc.com/

We used Miele to fabricate and install the bilco door in our last house and we were pleased. Looks like they are still around on route 22 from googling.

If water is a potential issue in your basement and you want it to look clean and be easy to touch up, masonry paint is the way to go. I mean, you could do something like epoxy or stain the concrete, but if you want something simple and less expensive, go for paint. Easy enough to throw a rug down if needed for hanging out or something. Get a handyman or junk removal guys to remove the old carpet, clean, use self leveler if needed, and let it all dry and use paint specifically for concrete. We painted our garage floor during the pandemic so I researched brands and I think ended up at Home Depot using a Kilz paint but it may have been Behr. This old house had a few listed and I actually had to go based on availability because a lot was out of stock.

Thanks for all the information. Can you give me an idea of Miele's prices? Also re the basement, I have thought about having the concrete stained or painted, and also need a reocmmendation for someone to do that properly. We're not skilled enough to do this on our own.

Miele appears to be permanently closed. Phone number is out of service, website is gone, and Facebook pages haven’t been updated since 2018.

I had a basement bilco door installed many years ago in another house. They come in regular and custom sizes. Mine had to be custom made because of its size and the necessary angle rise. My local contractor did it for what I considered a reasonable price.

I had looked into getting my bilco door replaced by them last year? Year before? Out of business. I put in a wood door, custom built to replace the wood door that was there. About $2K less (or even more) than the custom metal door.

Oops. Sorry… didn’t realize they were closed.
the door they put in was steel and would last a lifetime. Considering it was custom and they did the Installation it was worth it.

There are two types of bilco doors, both available at HD.  I've installed both.  Type 1 is the classic, all steel with sloping sidewalls that sits on a flat foundation around your stairs.  Type 2 is a flat steel slab with doors that sits on wood or masonry side walls.  This type is more adaptable to different situations.  The doors are not very expensive, it's getting the installation right that can cost you.

Can you tell me who custom built your wooden door? Rather than put in a Bilco door, I'm going with wood again. Thanks.
