Group 1c vaccines-how will it work

So far, all I read is that 1c is eligible tomorrow (Thursday 1/14).  I am guessing that meas 1c can start registering tomorrow FOR AN ACTUAL APPOINTMENT, but can't register today for a future appointment yet?

and can people walk in and say YEP, i have a condition, with no proof?  or what proof is needed?  are they going to weigh people to prove obesity (except for the obvious)?  demand proof of prescription for hypertension?

and do you know which vaccine you are signing up for?  J & J may apply for approval in a couple weeks..and that is only 1 dose, but if its effectiveness is lower, I'd rather wait for the moderna or pfizer.

I registered last Friday. I'm a 1c.

It’s largely been the honor system:

https://www.tapinto.net/towns/camden/sections/coronavirus-news/articles/nj-using-honor-system-at-coronavirus-vaccine-sites-meant-to-prioritize-frontline-workers

You don’t have a “choice” for the vaccine but both Pfizer and Moderna allegedly have equivalent effectiveness.  They WILL tell you which one you get because you need to get the same brand for the 2nd shot.

Sign up now at the Essex covid site if ur over 65 or high risk medical. To sign up, u need to provide insurance info.

I called my doctor today and they’re sending me a letter stating I have pre-existing health condition that put me at higher risk.  If I do get an appointment I don’t want to risk being turned away.

Why would they turn you away?

If they didn't believe that she had a pre-existing condition?

Okay, but they would have an appointment.

If I get an appointment I’d rather show up with a letter and not need it, instead of showing up empty handed and being turned away because I look healthy as a horse and they think I’m lying to jump ahead in line.

wasn't supposed to be possible in NJ.....unless you just mean to be notified, not actually schedule an appointment

the honor system doesn't make sense for 1a/1b...people would have  some type of work ID/pay stub

do you have to be a essex county resident to go to an essex county site?

edit: i just ran through the screener, to go to a county site, you have to live or work in that county.  I do 'gig' work that can send me into any county...I'd have to see if that qualifies.  if so, I could take an appointment in any surrounding county.....i've done essex and union gigs recently.

my concern isn't between pfizer and moderna, its if JJ gets approved and is only 50-60% effective...i'd rather wait to one  that is 90+ effective.

i just read that ibuprofen may weaken, the vaccine, I am guessing that would apply to all NSAIDS.  I've been in pain for 3 years, just started Rx NSAID that I will be on for another 2.5 weeks minimum.  i have to talk to that doc about coordinating this...my pain got so bad I would have gone to the ER if they could do anything....so if I stop the NSAID, i may quickly get miserable again..i'm still in pain, but not as bad.

I’m in group 1b. I registered via the Essex county portal a week ago and at that time the advice given after registration was that they would notify when I was scheduled which was supposed to be next available appointment in Essex county.

It sounds like there is a different process others are following that are more successful than the one Essex county has put forth.  Based on the post above, some people in my group who applied later got their shot appointment already.   Is that right and if so what should I do?  Thanks.

When you registered, were you able to pick a site & date? If not, you need to go back to the Essex Covid website & you will/should be able to schedule your appointment now. There were appts avail at Sears Livingston yesterday. The NJ covid web page also has information about other possible providers, ie some Shoprites and medical groups.

On the NJ web site, it looks like they've rolled up what used to be 1C people into 1B, effective 1/14.

So if you used to be 1C, you're now 1B.

I think. Certainly looks that way.

I just tried to make an appointment but the only site for my zipcode was the KMart in W.O. and there are no openings in the next week.

This was from the NJ website. It seems like you can make appointments by going to other websites that are run by the vaccination sites themselves, but I had no luck there either.

 Everyone registers first here: https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/

They send you an email telling you what your group is and then you wait for an appointment. I registered last Friday, as I said.

If you get an appointment, show up and get your jab. They won't give you an appointment unless you've proven you should get one, surely?

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Also, I still haven’t received an email saying I’m eligible even though supposedly today is when my group gets on the approved list.

Looking at all the “this place has vaccines, call for an appointment” posts I’m seeing on FB, I might just try to find a place myself and forget about waiting for the official state website since “**** show” seems to be an understatement of how New Jersey is coordinating this effort.  Hell, at this point I don’t even think trump could do a worse job than New Jersey is right now.

Note that the list of conditions provided by NJ is not complete.  The listed conditions are "included "among those that are now approved for vaccination.  You have to look at what the CDC says to see if you fit.

Two million smokers getting priority over Group 2.

I registered myself with the NJ website and was mistakenly informed that my "group" is currently eligible. From all other info avail, I don't believe I am currently eligible and I am not going to seek an appointment for myself.

I guess if I take up smoking, I could schedule it  cheese

I have cancer, not had, past tense, HAVE, as in am a current cancer patient.  I also have high blood pressure and am taking two medications to treat it.  I am a type II diabetic.  I am obese, or so my doctor claims.

I'm pretty sure I should qualify.

This mornings' web experience:

•Being over 65 I had "preregistered" on the NJ State web site (although only just yesterday).

•This morning I went on the EssexCOVID.org web site which (now updated) indicated that as of today, being over 65 I would qualify for a shot.

• The site let me answer a number of questions (I was getting all excited as it seemed I would get an appointment). It even let me select the Livingston Mall Sears location.

But alas, when I got to the pull-down menu to select a date, a pink pop-up box alerts me that all the appointments are filled through the 22nd -which is as far ahead as they seem to be scheduling at the moment (?)

SO, -I guess I'll just keep checking that site and my email for any notifications.

Summit Medical Group holding vaccines exclusively for their patients might me legal, but in the middle of a global pandemic it is sure as hell unethical.

If that is true, I agree it's unethical.

Did you try signing up on their portal?  I don't know but I'm not sure you need much more than that to be one of their patients.  It's not a country club.

shoprite has no appointments, i think you can go to any shoprite in  the state.  it's just the county run sites that you need to live and work in that county.

the good news is that johnson and johnson is saying 'nearly all' study patients produced an immune response.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html

this is the full CDC list, i could swear when i pre registered to be in group 1c, neuro conditions and hypertension were listed....but NJ isn't listing  them.

it strikes me that they say cystic fibrosis MIGHT be a risk....when that is a higher risk than some of the definite risks....I knew 2 people with it.  I died maybe 10 years ago at about age 40, the other is about 14 now.  its really not possible to specifically list all conditions...like muscular dystrophy which also makes it hard to breathe/cough (depending on the type).
