Going rate for teenaged sitters

What's the going rate for high school aged sitters watching 5 to 13 years olds? Do weekend nights command a premium?

I would say 10 dollars per hour.....any time. If there are more than two children a little more and if you know your kids are "spirited" a generous payment is good. Always discuss payment before the babysit with teens because sometimes they are uncomfortable discussing money/payment. A more mature and experienced sitter will definitely ask for more money per hour. I am a childcare provider and have been doing this for yearssss so naturally I ask more for my services. Good luck finding a good match for your family oh oh

10 dollars an hour is pretty much what we pay for our awesome high school babysitters.

My 15 year old charges $10 an hour.

$10 for one kid, a little more for additional kids.

My kids are 5 and 8. I used to pay $12, but was shamed by some friends to up it to $15. I like to keep them happy and wanting to come back, so that was ok with me. My sitters are usually college students, so sometimes are 20-21.

I was paying $10 an hour in the mid-1990s, for high school age sitters for my 2 sons (ages 8 and 10, to 10 and 12), for the reason noseygirl gives: I wanted them to be happy to get my phone call. Yikes, that's 20 years ago now!

Depends on whether they can drive or not (in my humble opinion). $10 is on the low end for sitters that can't drive but if the sitter can drive to and from your house then $12 - $15.

$10 is more like $12 if they don't pay taxes on it...child care workers should definitely get paid more than burger flippers..although I suspect high school teens wouldn't be driving the kids around in most cases...20 years ago, parents prohibited babysitters from driving the kids, now it is required in most cases. also, babysitters tend to put out a little of their own money for the kids (bringing a toy or other fun item).

We pay 12

My children charge their grade - when they were in 10th grade they charged $10/hr, 11th grade charged $11, now that they are seniors they charge $12. My college student usually charges $15.

and when I started at 14 in the 80s, I got $3/hour (minimum wage was $3.35--but taxes weren't taken out). And the child was disabled and a handful (to put it nicely)...he actually knocked me unconscious when I was 15, left me badly bruised a couple other times....

My HS junior charges $12. The people that want her back usually round up, especially if there's more than 1 kid. On more than one occasion, if there's a rambunctious child (I had two), she's received some extra hazard pay.
