Gastroenterologist recommendation for my adult kid

My son needs a colonoscopy (sp). He's done too much googling and is terrified he has crohns or cancer.
Of course, this might be possible but meanwhile he needs a good local dr. so any recs would be most appreciated. thanks,

I like Michael Rosen on Millburn Ave.

Matthew Askin is in the office building across from St. barnabas and I've been very happy with him.

Excellent doctor. I for one cannot say enough good things about him.

Our long-term gastro doctor retired last year, so we needed a new to find a new one. My spouse and I both had colonoscopies in December using Roger Klein (part of Summit Medical Group). We were both well satisfied. He was pleasant, professional, and reported back when he said he would. No complaints.
Has your son had a colonoscopy before? If not, he should know that the preparation is worse than the procedure. You have to drink about an ocean of liquid and spend most of a night in the bathroom. However, once past that, the procedure itself is nothing. In fact, the drugs they put you out with give you a great nap!
Good luck!

Highly recommend Dr. William Sloan at Affiliates in Gastroenterology on Short Hills Ave. in West Orange. Excellent bedside manner, kind, straightforward.

+1!

Regarding the prep, there's a relatively new liquid called Prepopik. If your doctor doesn't mention it, you may want to ask about it. Only two 8-ounce glasses of the prep liquid, plus quite a few glasses of water. I also don't eat at all the day before: a cup of coffee in the morning and then water the rest of the day. Makes the prep that much easier, I've found. And yes, the propofol does make for a nice nap!

We like Dr. Barrison at Summit Medical Group.

A few years back, I went to see Dr. William Sloan in Short Hills. I was truly suffering and he nailed it within 10 minutes (I was suffering an allergic reaction from a medication. My primary at the time who prescribed the meds to me and implored I keep taking them, couldn't figure it out but Dr. Sloan did). He has excellent bedside manner and is just lovely and extremely knowledgeable. Very old school but in a good way.

Adam Barrison of Summit Medical Group. One of the top GI guys in the state. I have a friend who has battled colon cancer several times and he swears by Barrison. He is also a nice guy w good bedside manner.

Another vote for Dr. Sloan. A great diagnostician and compassionate and excellent doctor.

Dr Barrison from Summit Medical Group.

Please tell your son to stop Google-ing! With a family history of colon cancer and recurring unexplained gastro problems, I went to see a gastroenterologist, who seriously thought I had Chron's. After making an appointment for my next colonoscopy I Googled it and what I learned scared the crap out of me! (Yes, that pun was intended.) Turned out a change in diet was all I needed. That guy is not my dr. anymore.

I've been extremely happy with Dr. Robert Schuman at Affiliates in Gastroenterology. I've been getting 'scoped every 2 -3 years for the last 20 years (started at age 28 because of the family history). The prep sucks, but the peace of mind is well worth it. My first visit with Dr. Schuman was a consultation to determine if he would be my new dr. He put me at ease with his kind, knowledgeable, straight-forward manner.

No matter who your son goes to, I hope he gets good care and medical advice that puts him on the road to better health.

@cppkqp: You're so right about the Google-ing! I used to do the same kind of thing and always made myself crazy jumping to conclusions.
And, of course, doctors jump to wrong conclusions, too. That's why it's always wise to get a second opinion for any significant diagnosis. I can't tell you how many times doctors over the years have made mistakes or just made their best (incorrect) guess. Some years ago, for example, a close family member was diagnosed by a "specialist" as likely having MS. Subsequent consultation with a top doctor at Columbia Presbyterian indicated that diagnosis was wrong, and in fact, the woman had no serious condition at all. Symptoms went away on their own, but the woman had endured two weeks of sleepless nights and needless daily anxiety.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I remembered (so forgetful) that years ago my husband saw Dr. Franzese and liked him alot, so we went to him. My son loved him but the wait time is awful. He did allay my son's fears about cancer tho (thank you, google). So now it's a Fodmap diet. ugh

Just scheduled an appointment with him today. I agree the wait is awful. Almost 2 months out. Hope he's worth it.

I had my appointment with Dr. Franzese and a Followup colonoscopy. He is awesome. Hopefully I won't need to see him again for another 5 years or so.
