Four City Brewery: an unsolicited endorsement

https://www.fourcitybrewing.com/

I have been loving this place in Orange by the train station ever since it opened up right before the pandemic. Cool proprietors, cool space, cool music and -- most important -- terrific beers. They always have a bunch of tasty and semi-experimental IPAs going, as well as a pilsner that's excellent for warmer weather. They have a new ale called Barge Rouge that is currently leading me into temptation, and I am succumbing.

Bring your own food and have a couple there, and then take home some cans or a crowler. For anyone who doesn't want to make the minor schlep, their stuff is on sale at Wine Barrel and maybe other places. Ask for it at bars till they get some.

I have a had a great deal of beer in my time and I can attest: This is good beer. Support what deserves to be a local institution and have fun doing it.

They’re at the Maplewood Farmers Market every other Monday, alternating with Montclair Brewery. I’ve lost track of whose turn it is tomorrow.

Questions from a long-time teetotaler.  I've been trying to find a place like this for many years -- a place to mitigate the solitariness of home; people who are as interested in good conversation as they are in when the next beer will arrive; people who would like to know your name if they don't know it already. Even better would be good food and a relaxed attmosphere, a cool vibe,. and a midnight snack to take home.

I stopped drinking when I had to start a medication that made me feel like I had a hang-over long before I even felt tipsy.  Why pay for that?  ( I fooled many, many people over the years with my tonic & limes .  Here are my questions:

- Bring your own food??  Does this place have a kitchen?
- If they serve food, what stlye is it?  Jamaican?  No special stlye?  What you -- or they -- have in the
   fridge?
- I have no problem going out with other drinkers.  (I;ve fooled many, many people over the years with
my tonic & limes.  I enjoy conversation, and I'll feel better than ou do in the morning.
- Would people NOT drinking beer feel out of place there?  Do they sell any jiuce?  Water or anything
   else non-0alcoholid?
- Last question:  Do you have the exact address?  It won't be a schlep for me from East Orange (but I
do tend to get lost on that side of the highway  "Main St" addresses can tie me up in knots, too.

-- No kitchen. Bring what you want or order in. Sometimes they have food truck outside.

-- I don't think they have a nonalcoholic beer. I'm not sure if they sell juice or whatnot.

-- No one will notice if you are not drinking their beer.

-- The exact address is 55 S. Essex Ave. The best parking is in the Orange train station lot for the most part, but I think there's sometimes street parking right in front.

Taking the train there is very easy and convenient.
