Fixing Dryer?

Hi All,

Just found out my dryer is not heating up & drying anything. LOL My husband DID clean out the fuzzies from both the dryer itself as well as the hose. Is there anything else you can suggest we do before deciding to repair it or BUY another one? TIA

is it an electronic one?  If so, Google to find the service manual for the model, put it in service mode to diagnose the problem.  Then buy the parts from repairclinic.com and watch the video on that site to learn how to the repair  dryers are pretty simple machines.

Does it appear to work otherwise:  switch working, drum turns, etc.?

If it's gas there is probably a small plastic square maybe 1" x 1" on the front near the bottom.  You can remove this to watch the ignition cycle.  Do you see any flame at all?  There should first be a pilot flame, then a main flame.  My guess is that either the pilot solenoid, main solenoid, or ignitor are the problem.

most likely there is a fuse that when gets to hot, blows, therefore shutting off the gas valve preventing the dryer to heat. I was about to drop $600 on a new one before I looked in YouTube and realized the replacement part was $15. Took it apart and had it running in 15 minutes. Good as new.

Harken unto this.

For the somewhat less handy, it's also a fairly cheap fix by a repair tech, or by PSE&G if you have a contract on it.  Assuming it's the thermo-thingy.

I am not handy, so I would call George's Appliances in New Providence. They charge $65 to come out and give an estimate.

Thanks so much for all the responses! oh oh I will print them out for my husband. It's a gas dryer & no, we're not too handy but I really like that it MAY be a fairly inexpensive fix. Whoo-hoo!

I had the same issue and it was the thermal fuse on mine also.  I used a multi-meter to diagnose it, along with typing in the dryer model # into repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com, and partselect.com which all sell appliance parts and have good troubleshooting videos.

Thanks so much, TommyOrigami! cheese
