Firecrackers, roman candles, etc are illegal in New Jersey

Probably too late for the heads-up tonight, but just in case you're the one setting them off in your front yard or giving them to your kids to play with in the middle of the street.....

I had a Roman Cndle land on the roof of my kitchen a couple of years ago, when some idiots were setting off fireworks in Orchard Park, it was still flaming when it landed, had to call MFD, very scary!

We have several neighbors that love them. Make my kids crazy.

Someone was setting them off near me, well within hearing of the police officer directing traffic around 8pm at Oakview and Prospect. I didn't get the impression that any action was taken. If a traffic officer hears or sees fireworks being set off illegally, shouldn't they call that in?

I hate the illegal fireworks not only because they are so dangerous, but you can't prepare for them. I saw an organization this year that sent out lawn signs for combat veterans with ptsd....the signs ask neighbors to be courteous with their fireworks. At least you can know during the official showtime to prepare yourself if you are affected by the sounds and lights, but I cannot imagine how terrible the days leading up to the 4th must be for combat veterans, with all these people setting off explosives whenever they feel like it...

I wrote a huge post, but my wifi messed up and lost it. Long story short, at Oakview and Valley, some kid set off two Roman candles tonight, one after another, making the crowd run in the opposite direction. It was in clear view, and 20 feet from, two officers who did nothing.

Someone set one off on the field at the West Orange fire works show. Started a mini panic. Shooting them off in and enclosed crowded space like that makes them even more dangerous.

Call the Cops for illegal fireworks

Here's the finale of Mplwd's display:

Agree with not wanting illegal fireworks. But I hate lawn signs more.

Scattered across the sidewalk and street this morning.....ugh....

A friendly reminder to all Americans- next year don't forget to celebrate your freedom from tyranny in orderly, government-sanctioned demonstrations. If you see an illegal celebration of freedom from tyranny, please call the police immediately.

@ridski LOL. I'll suggest they go blow things up in your driveway next year.

Sometimes it takes a British person to remind you guys what you fought us for. Also, trespassers will be shot.

I dislike both. The former because of the danger and the latter because I just think they look trashy and make our community look lower-class. But obviously I'm in the minority on the lawn sign thing, judging from the increasing number of organizations who are distributing them (nearly all of which I respect greatly otherwise and several of which I am a member)... sigh!

We are out of state and had a very happy and safe July 4th. The whole family enjoyed the skyrockets, roman candles, firecrackers and spinning wheels (purchased from local merchants). We have never had an accident. We have only one person at a time lighting fireworks in designated area. Seems that the dangers of fireworks are overblown (pun intended).

How very boring our country has become.

There's this constant need and desire for some of you to live in a protective cocoon of safety. Regulate every possible thing to eliminate any chance of possible danger and inconvenience. Only allow government sanctioned activities with the required permits and liability insurance. Usually the loudest criers are the ones constantly pushing to regulate us into their desired safety cocoon with politicians happily complying to pass their desired laws.

When I was a kid we all did fireworks. The only thing we ever injured were our ear drums. Sure, some get injured by fireworks but that is rare. A lot less than those who are injured by motor vehicles - 90 deaths and 10,000 injured every day. But we have the firework screamers. If really worried about danger, then why not scream about motor vehicles? Ban them except in cases of necessity.

We regulate our parks and beaches to death. God forbid if someone brings a bottle of wine or beer into a park or beach. When I visited other countries that regulation did not exist. Just as they don't criminalize those under 21 who buy an alcoholic beverage.

Lets beat the excitement and fun out of our lives.

Yeah, well, I'm glad you never got injured, BG9. Our neighbors always got fireworks when I was a kid, and one year a cousin got his finger blown off. True story.

And for the record, I loathe fireworks that are all noise and no visual beauty. Pointless. And yes, dangerous, no matter what you like to think in your mental cocoon.

Carry on.

C'mon, you've gotta have a few well-timed cannonades at key points in a program, if only for the solar plexus impact! It may scare kids & animals of all kinds, but it's... you know... show-biz!

This is from someone who's never worked in an emergency room.

Fireworks are super dangerous. That's the point. So you follow the instructions, and you don't eff around with them and you light one or two at a time and everyone has a great time and gives the ER guys and girls the night off. But you have to respect them

Anyone else see the story about a man in Maine who died because he had the bright idea of trying to set off a firework from the top of his own head???

Seriously, what is wrong with some people... my brother says it's Darwinism in action.

Probably voted for Paul LePage, who endorsed Christie for POTUS...

BTW: Your brother's right.

My idiot neighbors started shooting them off about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. They kept the noise up all day. From my back porch---and I didn't video the ones that started at midnight.

You can't regulate away stupid. It's as universal as hydrogen (to paraphrase a tee shirt I used to have).
