Dermatologist to remediate scars?

I know there have been a lot of dermatologist threads, but does someone have a suggestion for a dermatologist to remediate scars? Asking on behalf of a young woman. Thank you in advance as always.

He is not a dermatologist, but my daughter was seeing Dr. Soni for laser treatments during her terrible bouts of acne. She went to a regular dermatologist for a round of Acutane, which seemed to finally calm her skin down. Six months after that, she is having skin pen "needle" treatments at ethos spa in Summit for her scarring. Not cheap but worth it in her case.

One of the Kibbeboys has seen Dr. Siegel in Millburn with great success.

Thank you, musicmz and kibbegirl!I will call your suggestions to see if a woman doc is in the practice. (Patient would prefer this. Forgot to say.)

If you're willing to go into the City, I highly recommend giving Dr. Rhonda Pomerantz a call. http://www.pomerantzdermatology.com

The dermatologists Miss Z went to for the Accutane (now generic) were in Dr. Siegel's practice. She saw 3 different women doctors - Penrose I think was her favorite, Mautner and Freeman. The office staff was very good with scheduling due to her college and work conflicts.

She actually came down from Massachusetts for the 3rd needle pen procedure today at Ethos; Dr. Soni only did the consult for this; he personally did the laser procedures a few years ago.

Oh, a warning that Millburn Laser required a credit card on file and they automatically debited it after insurance coverage.

Update: Millburn Laser does indeed require a credit card before you even see a doctor. Patient was seen by a new doctor in the practice. And referred out to a practice that has scores of different types of laser machines. The new practice won't even give you an appointment until you give them your credit card over the phone and they take a $100 reservation fee. New practice won't even try to put scar remediation through to blue cross blue shield. They deem it cosmetic. Won't give me a price range. You're just supposed to give them your credit card, and find out what they bill you when the charges hit.

I am going check in with blue cross blue shield. Maybe I can get them to cover, and maybe they can refer me to some place that has a lot of lasers and that participates in BCBS.

What do you think of Accutane? My son needs it badly, but I'm a little afraid of Accutane.

Daughter tried it the first time in high school and it exacerbated emotional problems. Didn't stay on it more than 10 or 12 days...tried it again a few years later, but follow-up while away at college was spotty and stopped prematurely for a semester abroad. REALLY dries out the skin - bag balm was the only thing to keep chapped lips from bleeding. She just told me that she will try going on it again, with proper follow-ups.

Is this the same practice Dr. Siegel is in? If so, this isn't our experience. When I filled out the paperwork at Siegel's office, a CC was asked for (our pediatrician has been doing this for years). Also, they no longer send out bills. I get notified via BC/BS that an email is waiting for me. I log into BC/BS and see what was paid and what we owe and I send off a check. I don't recall reading or being told anything about a reservation fee. So far, they're the only practice we have that doesn't send out paper bills.

Kibbe--Right, I wasnt talking about Millburn Laser. I was talking about the practice that Millburn Laser referred us to. I get the impression this new practice caters to a very wealthy clientele. We don't really fit, except I bet they'd be good at scar remediation

Breal, I just had a couple of appointments with doctors at Summit Medical Group (Morristown and Berkeley Heights) and I thought they were great. Dr. Eric Huang was the nicest and most thorough dermatologist I've ever seen, and I have seen many dermatologists. http://www.summitmedicalgroup.com/doctor/ehuang/

Thanks for clearing that up. I was a bit confused.

It's cuckoo for anyone to hand over the CC and not know what the charges will be. But like you said, they probably cater to a very wealthy clientele.

Breal, I see that a woman doc is preferred. I know that Summit Medical Group has plenty of woman MDs. Tho I must say that I liked Dr. Huang a lot more than the woman dermatologists I consulted for a number of years.

Hi Krugle1,

My son did a course of very low dose Accutane (approximately 20mg per day) for one year. He had moderate acne and it was getting worse. Accutane is a very effective drug and the lower doses are generally safe. Different derms have different views on dosages, but it's worth finding someone who will agree to prescribe the lower dose as this minimizes side effects. Also, be aware that some people may experience hair loss (I did and so did my son), but it usually grows back. I took Accutane for rosacea and it was a life-saver. Feel free to pm if you have any questions and good luck to your son.
