D.C./MD transportation

Next week the family and I will be staying in Annapolis, but we'll be going into D.C. for a few of the days to see the sights.  I understand that it could be a traffic nightmare driving into the heart of D.C. in the morning, so I'm thinking maybe we should instead drive to the New Carrollton Metro station (last stop on that line) and ride in from there.  Looks like there is plenty of parking there with cheap rates.

Anyone familiar with this area who has any thoughts or insights?

Thanks.

yes, take the train.  traffic in and out of D.C. is a nightmare.

It's been a long time since I lived there, but New Carrollton was a good hub for that part of the state. I used to take Metro to that stop and then catch Amtrak to the Baltimore airport. You might also look into the MARC commuter trains. They have limited service on weekends, but if Metro is having more shutdowns, they might be a good alternative. There's a MARC line that runs through New Carrollton.

check the dc metro lines-they are having lots of problems and some lines will be shut down for maintenance

Thanks.  I checked their website and the only service alert on that line is single-tracking for maintenance after 10:00pm -- should be n/a for us I hope.
