Waste of time and money. I would like to see a report of the number of seat belt violations they write.
Would be better spent, checking speed and muffler violations on Irvington Ave.
$7,000 for seatbelt enforcement? That’s like two cops overtime for one week?
From nj.com:
Police from the 145 departments that participated in last year’s crackdownissued 8,373 seatbelt citations, wrote 3,315 speeding summonses and made 278 impaired driving arrests. The fine for a seat belt violation can be up to $46.
Looks like South Orange got $7,000:

It's interesting that Maplewood did not receive funds. I wonder if they even applied for a grant, or applied and were rejected.
I’m always curious when I see people driving unbelted. My car is far from new, but dings like crazy if I don’t buckle up even to move from a driveway to the street a few yards away. Are people able to disable that safety feature?
Some people who dislike belts connect them before they sit down and just sit in front of them.

thank you - I’m not sure I knew that was even possible. Sounds crazy dangerous…

A ticketing blitz starts today for seatbelt violations. Apparently multiple municipalities were given grant money for increased enforcement of seatbelt laws. South Orange got $7K.
From nj.gov:
New Jersey's seat belt law requires all motor vehicle passengers in the front seats and back seats to buckle up. Belt use by the driver and all front seat passengers is a primary offense — a police officer may stop a vehicle and issue a ticket for this violation alone.
