Careful! I think I just got targeted by an IRS scam

I got a call from a 206 number with a recording claiming that it was the IRS, and that I was having a lawsuit filed against me by the federal government. I was instructed to immediately call 206-249-7322. (I actually called and the line was busy.)

Scam or no scam? Checked here: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts and this seems consistent with scams that are going around.

Scam!  The IRS will NEVER contact you by phone.  Do not call back.

I just got this call from these fraud guys. The phone number calling was listing as an IRS # (when I checked it out after the fact.) They couldn't pronounce/read my husbands' last name and it sounds very "unprofessional" in the background. I told him i was going to call the cops (I *know* I can't do anything but I wanted him to know that I knew...) question

Should I report this to someone? The IRS website didn't have a number ot report fake phone calls, just phishing email and web sites.

I had the same thing happen last week (similar noisy background) . I just started yelling at the guy that this was bullsh*t and that he ought to be arrested. Then I hung up.

2 days ago I got a call claiming my debit card had been frozen by BOA and I should stay on the line to resolve it. I hung up and called BOA immediately and of course there was no problem with any of my accounts and their associated cards.

Got me to wondering if I'm being targeted more this year since I hit the big 6 OH or for some similar reason.

I'm almost 20 years younger than you nakille, I think these gross people are just making the rounds.

Of course it is a scam.

B.o.A. will, however send text messages to tell you your card has been frozen, due to unusual activity. You are then advised to call their number.

My American Express Credit card was suspended when I used it at a major chain store. Am Ex quickly explained because the security at the store was breached and it was for my protection. They quickly replaced the card.

Also the IRS if they will contact you will do it by surface mail and give you a legitimate phone number to call them

Happened to me because of a big mistake on the part of my tax prepare guy

these scams are so prolific...there was as story on the news today..someone claiming to be from the electric company called a pizza place, said the power was going to be shut off if they didn't go to rite aid and get green dot cards to pay....cashier in rite aid told the guy it was a scam and wouldn't sell him the cards...so the guy goes to CVS and gets the green dot cards....and pays the bill...the scammer even set up a fake electric company phone recording that sounded exactly like the real one (ie if you are calling to open or close an account, press 1, if you calling to report a gas leak press 2).....the guy that got scammed didn't come off as an idiot..but even after being told by rite aid he was being scammed...he still fell for it..

Not sure if this will reduce the number of instances of this scam, but at least some people have been caught.
