Can you identify this tree?

We've got a bunch of these trees at my apartment complex, and I can't figure out what they are. I thought they might be some kind of locust?

Any clue?

I can post more pictures tomorrow.

Looks like an ailanthus (Tree of Heaven) from the photo.  Invasive.

Another vote for Ailanthus. A test is to take a leaf and crush it. If it has a strong odor, it is Ailanthus. It is also known as the tree that grows in Brooklyn. If the leaves have no strong odor, it could be a black walnut.

An invasive pest.  Get rid of them.

Are they feathery leaves? Do golden-yellow flowers appear, followed by big pods? It kinda reminds me of a Golden Rain (Golden Shower) tree, but I can’t see the details clearly enough.
seems surprising for your area, though; then again, I’m not an expert.

I guess I should have noted that they're about 50 feet high.

And they're not invasive. There are about 8-10 of them spread across maybe 1/4 mile.

here's two of them, from Google Maps, probably taken a couple of months ago.

They look like honey locusts to me.

Yeah, I was leaning towards some sort of locust.

Can't tell what the leaves look like but the structure resembles a honey locust.

Both grow tall (and can exceed 50').  The leaves are similar, so it is difficult to tell which is which in a photo.  Except that in real life:

  • Locusts have short fronds.  Tree growth is moderate.
  • Ailanthus has 3-4' long fronds, which stink if crushed.  Tree growth is hyperactive.

The fronds in the first picture said "locust" to me.

First one is Brian.

Second two are Knuckles and Fats McGinty.

The other pics are of Gordo Hepburn when he was young.
