Notable ones in the top 10:
Burrata Pie at Razza was #6
Pepperoni at Star Tavern #4
Burrata pie - Queen's City - LBI - I had this over the summer - it's the same block where I stay and it was fantastic. Happy to see it here!
I like Corner Slice a lot but I'm skeptical about best pizza lists. That said, a relatively new entrant in the larger area, Bucky's Pizza in Chatham, is quite good.
Joe's, Vaux Hall, was their top choice around 20 years ago.
There must be two lists. This is for the specific pizza pie as opposed to the pizza parlor itself.
We were Joe's regulars for years but have not taken out from there in a long time, for no reason I can think of.
My allegiance to Joe's Famous Pizza's extra mushroom, thin crust is unshakeable. Greasy, crispy deliciousnness. Now working on ordering 30 pizzas over multiple months in order to get a free one. As the pizza is an occasional treat, it's gonna take a while.
Those of us who grew up here, recall that there were three pizza shops at the intersection of Millburn, and Springfield. Joe's and King of Pizza shared the same parking lot. Across the street, where the medical building is, was a couple of small shops. One was pizza. That was my favorite because the owner's 12 year old kid would spin the dough. You don't see that anymore.
Anyways, the kid was Frank who later ended up running the Century 21 Real Estate office on Irvington Avenue.
Sabatinos is pretty good. The bottom line is, we have pretty good, real pizza in the larger real. I'm always puzzled when I see a Dominoes car pull up to someone's house. What's the price differential such that it's worth buying chsin pizza crap?

An out of state elderly relative fell head over heels for Sabatino’s on a visit to Maplewood. And she is an amazing cook, so her praise is high praise indeed. When she got home she called there to tell them how much she loved it, and whoever answered the phone was kind enough to chat with her about pizza and cooking and recipes and more, which was so lovely.
We’re latecomers to Sabatino’s. Our go-to pie is sausage-broccoli (the veggie soothes our consciences), and Sabatino’s sauce and toppings taste notably fresh, with a good, crispy crust.
I believe heartily that (overall) we have the best pizza anywhere in our area/region (including NYC also.) But to say that there is one BEST pizza is crazy. We are very fortunate in that regard here, but I just don't see how anyone can claim that one pizzeria or one individual pizza type at one pizzeria is BEST.
ETA - But many of us can say which is/are our favorite(s)!
Is this a rating for pepperoni pizzas?
Yes we do have some of the best pizza close by, and it’s not until you go to another state you actually realize it… we take things like great pizza for granted around here.
As for the dominos delivery… it’s mostly kids who prefer that pizza, first hand experience here, the brownies….

As far as Domino's goes I just priced out (without delivery, just pick up prices) a 16" pepperoni and mushroom pizza from both Domino's and Sabatino's and Domino's came in around $6 cheaper ($18.99 vs $25.95). Yes, the quality difference is massive, but when you're not dripping money and you're hungry, six bucks is six bucks.

re: other states, i'll just say it's really hard for me to find pizza i like in Wisconsin. Too much of it might as well have crackers (or matzoh?) for the crust, and sometimes they cut it in squares, yes, even the round pies.
And Chicago is about 90 miles away.
Sabatinos is the only thing even resembling good pizza anywhere near here.
These lists must be made by the same guys who love NJ sloppy joes.

I would imagine the Dominoes crowd are those with children. My kids appetites were more developed than their taste buds and preferred a lot of bad pizza over a little good pizza.

I think a lot of people in SOMA forget they have neighbors with very little disposable income. Being able to treat your family to a pizza dinner doesn’t come around often.
Chains like Domino’s and Papa John’s also send out coupons and have massive discounts and specials all the time.
We're not talking about the housing crisis here in saving 6 bucks, and where i see the chain deliverers near me, they're not rolling up to poor people's houses. You could also use the Too Good to Go app to get really cheap pizza. There's lots of pizza places on the app.

You can't always tell who is struggling financially these days. Your neighbors don't always advertise when someone loses their job or has a medical condition that requires them to dip into savings.
In my experience, getting pizza delivered from Domino's or a similar chain is all about speed, cost, and/or convenience. Not quality.

How many of them deliver what your kids actually want around 6pm?
Roman Gourmet right now is offering a $4.99 surprise bag for pick up at 8.45pm. How many will it feed? Don't know. What's in it? Don't know. Will anyone still be hungry by the time it arrives? Don't know.

Someone can be scraping by and need a couple of weeks to set aside the money for their families to enjoy a pizza night. Kids love it and get to feel like they’re doing something special that everyone else seems to take for granted. Parents can take a break from cooking. And I don’t think anyone cares that it’s the $9.99 any crust any toppings deal from Domino’s versus $25.95 one pizza from Sabatinos.
Also, dismissing the importance of $6? That’s the kind of blindness to our neighbors’ financial struggles that I’m talking about. $6 could be another meal entirely.
Also Roman Gourmet and Trattoria are our two favorite pizzas in town.
My kids preferred lil Caesar’s and at 5bucks a pie my allergies to spending money wouldn’t get triggered. I’m an old school miser, spend thrift, cheapskate you name it
I wonder how much it is now it’s been a minute.
For **** and giggles I found an old post of mine from 2019 talking about how I love the Alsatian pizza at Pickett's, which had just opened. It was $16 in 2019 and $24 now. The place is literally around the corner from me and I walked around there all the time to get a pizza even through COVID - with my wife and I getting our own ones, but the last year or so it's just too expensive to even get one, so we get the thin crust from the Trat now with a couple of toppings because it's good and probably the cheapest option.
Yes, unless you're a late night eater, you pick up Too Good to Go pizza late and eat it the next day.
BTW, we got 18 bagels today for $5.99 on Too Good to Go. The app is the way to save money if you need to for pizza and other things.
Got s..tloads of $$$ to spare? Take your kids to the Point Pleasant boardwalk.

This thread is about best pizza. Are you saying this is the best REGARDLESS OF THE PRICE or are you just inputting things into a thread that frankly does not belong there. SMH
