Has anyone used Everest Construction for a new roof? I have gotten estimates from the usual suspects in town and this quote was markedly lower. My neighbor used them for a very small patch but not a whole roof and said they were great. The quote includes tear off, ice/water shield, vent pipes, step flashing, clear out. Has anyone used them for a roof? In the quote, they said 'we recommend GAF/ELK, OWENS CORNING OR IKO SHINGLES. I'm not sure I know what that means (plus there is no mention of how long the warranty is). I don't want to be suspect because the the price is so low but I'm wondering if anyone has perspective on this? The funds for one of the major roofers is very steep for me at this time. Gail
The roofing you quote are three brands of roofing materials. Each manufacturer makes a variety of products with various life warranties. GAF is the company, Elk is the architectural line of shingles they make.
We did our roof shortly after moving in five years ago. We bid it out and then did what you are doing and asked about various companies we had quotes from. We ended up with GAF architectural shingles and AA Martin did our job. Their quote was kind of middle of the road and they came well recommended.
I don't know Everest, but if you search on MOL discussions, I'm sure there has been another string about this topic that might mention them. Some roofing companies use day labor, not a full time time crew, so you might ask them about their employee's experience.
Other factors we considered were the drip edging and underlayment. Check out this old house website: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/roofing
They describe some of the questions you may not have thought to ask.
I just used Everest and they were great. I had never heard of them before either but they were a recommendation from another tradesman that we trust. PM me if you want.
@gegreenstein - did you end up going with Everest? I am currently pricing out our roof in Millburn. Was wondering what your final decision was and how the experience went.
I stopped by someone's house who used Everest and they sounded great. I went with someone who is more in the central jersey area. They did nice work and his estimate came out lower than everyone's. I needed to save as much money as possible. Only challenge is the owner's english is not great and their schedule is crazy so you just have to be patient and persistent. for me, the money was an issue so it all worked out. Janusz - I'm forgetting the company name but he can tell you: 6095772388
Janusz was 4k cheaper than others. I needed the savings. It took patience in dealing with him. But I saved some money for other projects. Why don't you call him - have him visit and see how you feel. His number is earlier in this thread. In the end the work qas good but not the easiest journey.
One of my realtor friends swears by Everest! She has used him for years, both personally and professionally. He just gave us an estimate and we hope to use him.
