A new era: copyright vs public domain

So, the end date of a whole stack of copyrighted material has been reached and now a new era of public domain reading and reformatting begins:

The big question is, will it mean a new era of creativity? Will this unleash  a new interest in ‘classics’ and forgotten writers? Or will we see new ways to steal themes, scenes, characters and key conversations, and have those new re-creators able to claim originality?

I guess it’s all how you define “fresh” cheese
