600 Year Old White Oak Tree

Maybe some of you are familiar with Basking Ridge's Main Street. At the end of the road in front of the Presbyterian Church is the most amazing wide-spreading oak. It is the oldest white oak in the United States. Just read in the Times that the tree is ailing and tree doctors are trying to find a cure.

Yes it's lived way past a normal lifespan for a White Oak. It's been propped up and nursed along for decades. Every pastor of the church comes in afraid that they will be the pastor when the tree finally can't be saved.

Every living organism will die eventually.  LOL

I've seen that tree and it is amazing. It's like a huge old person.  It has a personality.   Everyone should go see it while they can.  The Mockingbird Cafe' is down the street and the Raptor Trust is close by for additional attractions.

Some older oaks can be nursed along by planting more oaks nearby, apparently the young trees will support older trees through their root system. But it will only get them so far, as Marylago already said, everything dies eventually.

Just not disco. That will live eternally.

It is so graceful to see such old trees in all its glory
